1000 watt station

Could someone tell me what is the most and the least watts a 1000 watt station can put out? I think it is 10% over and 20% under is that right? the most we can get out of our old transmitter is 850 watts.
Bobby

I persume if you say it's old it must be a "tube" model! Have you put a new final tube in?BIG APE

OH BOY! APE and the tubes. "Remember, it's HOT!" Be careful with those, you guys~~!!!!!! :) :) ;) ;)

What were those things Sniffy? 533A rings a bell.. At the APE in Orange Park, Brennen's homemade tranmitter had these things that looked like something from Mars or those old science fiction pictures..They kept the swimming pool under the building warm anyway!BIG APE!

You are allowed +5% over and -10% under; so, in your case 1050 watts max and 900 watts minimum. If this is an AM station, you have to calculate the maximum and minimum values of antenna current based on these power levels (the percentage applies to power, not antenna current).

well, you said in another post that the transmitters tubes are soft..which would explain why u only got 850 watts out..it looks like the station needs some TLC....how much technical knowledge do you have???? ...like what the above poster said...what is your antenna current supposed to be..and what is it now?

I'd check with SCMS in the Charlotte area (Pineville, NC) They are a broadcast supply business. You can find them on the internet.

Bobby,

If all else fails, I've also used ECONCO.

They offered us credit for sending the old tube(s) back to them.

I saw a pair of 833's ( running) at WMCT last weekend but they looked kinda cherry red to me and I didn't see any spares. Might call them and see who they get theirs from. Ask for Willis Walker.

I somehow feel the need to go take the test for my 3rd class license w/broadcast endorsement.

The problem is they are not looking to hire help or buy parts. They are looking for a freebie. That is a different story. I am not faulting them, just sayin.

Does Oldies radio sound better through a tube or solid state transmitter? Just wondering out loud. What you think Ape? We could live real good on the difference in the power bill I bet.

I betcha APE's gonna say what I'm gonna say: Oldies sounds best on tubes with the real coil reverb!!!!!!!! Cant' touch it, govnah. :p :p ::) ::) 8)
Gotta hit the post! (the first one!!!!!!!!!!)

Ya called that one right...Tubes it is..with a Hammond organ spring or a leslie.. I've still got my 3rd issued in 1962 and also several First Phones I received later and then later they created the General Class and issued it for a lifetime. Lot of good it does now!

I don't think there has ever been a better xmitter than the one Brennen had at the BIG APE in Orange Park..Homemade but it was a "Flamethrower"> BIG APE!
