101.1 Belhaven

101.1 has dropped the simulcast of 92.3 The Touch and is not simulcasting Rock 105. Is 92.3 still doing the Touch format or is it something else? I can't pick that up up here.

When I heard this the last night I turned it to 92.3 and heard disco-ish music. This was on Saturday so I'm assuming they are still the same format... Foxy 107/104 is that format and does that kind of music on Saturday nights.

If they're not simulcasting Rock 105, what are they doing?

sorry didn't proofread. Should have said now simulcasting Rock 105.

They did this back in the early 2000s too. 101.1's signal is just so bad in any populous area that nothing really ever catches on. The only city that it really gets into is New Bern, and 92.3/98.7/105.1/105.5 (yes it has simulcasted all of those at one time or another) all cover New Bern perfectly fine.

Kool 98.7 & 101.1 (oldies) early-mid 90s
WANG 105 and 101 (standards) late 90s
Rock 105 and Rock 101 (rock) early 00s for like a year, if that
92.3 and 101.1 The Beat of Carolina (Rhythmic CHR) early 00s-2007
92.3 and 101.1 The Party (Rhythmic AC) 2007-2007 (really did it last longer than 6 months?)
92.3 and 101.1 The Touch (Urban AC) 2007-2010
And we start back again with rock....

I think that's all of them...

Anyone remember when this was WKJA in Belhaven? It was between 92.1 and 92.9 but I can't remember the exact frequency.

101.1 has been 50,000 watts equivalent ever since they moved from 92.1. They are lowering the height of the antenna below 150m (allowing them to go to 50k) and going to a new tower a couple miles west but I don't think it will help much.

And do they need a new tower! I remember 10 years ago sending a tower climber up to replace Tower lights. Got up about 200 feet, screamed he was comming down. Got down and had a horozontal section of the tower in his hand. Poor old tower was a black iron. Cannot remember the manufacturer. Got a CCA for the main.

They hit more than just New Bern, the also come in well in Greenville, Williamston, and Washington. They even go up towards Edenton and Elizabeth City. According to the maps I have seen the CP will give them less of a signal in New Bern but make them stronger in Greenville, Kinston, Washington and Williamston and then with a simulcast of 92.3 or 98.7 should have full market coverage. I wish they would go back to one of the 2 formats that were actually good up there. That is the old WANG adult standards or 92.3 and 101.1 The Party. That station would have lasted if they would have given it more of a go, and really promoted it. It was much better than 93.9 KISS FM in Raleigh and they had 2 of the best jocks around with Gina Gray and Fox. I think they could re launch it put Gina, and Fox up there. They could also add some other great jocks from the area like Lee Cherry and Garry Lee. I think they would work well on this format since much of the music is from the 80's and 90's when those 2 were in their prime. Heck, really go for it and steal Shelley Bynum from the old 933 WDLX from the other 933 in Fredericksburg. That would be a killer line up. I know it will never happen but hey just wishful thinking.

Washington, yes. Williamston and Greenville not so much. Have you ever listened to the station in Greenville? It sounds awful... there are Raleigh stations that have much better signals. Static because a station is fading in and out is not acceptable to the average listener.

It is crystal clear here in Williamston and when they were The Party I used to listen to them in Greenville and don't remember having any problems. They CP they have should help with the signal problems there.

Whenever I visit New Bern, I have a real hard time pulling in 105.5. Honestly, this market desperately needs a good Hot AC. How much country do we need?

All you really need is The Bear. Or so I'm told. I've never actually heard it.

Getting back to the original topic, PLEASE get the WRQR call letters for this station.
