101.1 FM Warsaw ... it's back

Warsaw's bad luck reception-wise is that they're in a low spot...Fort Wayne gets more or less knocked out about 3 or 4 miles from where US 30 and Lincolnway come out by Arbys. South Bend comes around once you get about 7 miles north or west.

What WRSW USED to do that I liked was middays were almost all requests, and I DO mean requests...of some great "not on the prescribed playlist" songs. And the rock that WAS programmed was fantastic. A great mix, a great feel, even if your Fridays might be interrupted with high school sports. And I don't mind that - I did that for 8 years, in the studio, on site - and there's MORE than enough people in the Lake City that WANT their high school sports. Give the listeners that, I can understand it, but when they took the freewheeling music away and went to "the same crap, all the time," yeah, the ears turned away.

My recent look at the Indy Arbitron numbers show 50 kw WGNR at 1%,and market leader K Love at 3%. The AU station is at .4. Being in radio and in the Christian broadcasting area I am shocked to see such low numbers for stations with good signals.

its cause not much of anyone wants to listen to that type of programming.

its pretty much why nobody listens to American Shortwave broadcasting anymore

but yet these groups keep buying up stations, putting up translators everywhere polluting the band.

truth be told. a rag tag pirate could pull in better numbers then religion.

There is a rag tag pirate in Warsaw at 87.9. ;D

But I'd rather listen to the religious boys. Whoever is "running" it, runs some very radical talk on it, or outlaw country sometimes, or AC/DC....

I wait patiently for the launch of the format.... ;D

Last night, the signal sounded fine in northern Forth Wayne. This morning, there's hiss and static.

With static, Darth Vader doesn't sound very powerful ;)

I noticed that myself this morning... I also noticed processing changes, as it sounded much better (brighter) for a couple of days, but it's now back to being "muddy" on the upper end again, and not as punchy, like it's been throttled back across the board.

Darth is losing his breath... sorta! :D :D

Today marks one month of stunting... I'm starting to doubt the launch will ever happen. I myself have never heard of a full month of stunting before.

I think it's been every half-hour they run that robot time and temp, and an ad for a salesperson...
If it's taking this long why would you want it?? Is this to keep it legal to get through license renewal and then goes dark again??
It's getting old, but I wonder how many more stations could end up this way if the trend continues of listeners going to satellite and personal devices...

...and I just tuned in tonight to dead air...carrier's up but no stereo pilot and NOTHING ON THE AIR. So what now???

I heard it both at lunchtime and I believe around 6PM this evening. I'm sure of the lunchtime listen, but I'm not confident of hearing it tonight. Who's LMA-ing it?

That I personally do not know. I'm just reporting on what I HEAR. I don't have any inside info on the station.

The latest: the station is running a ticking clock effect, and a voicer giving the countdown to a 10 AM TODAY re-launch.

Well..... from what I've heard, it's BORING. Maybe I'm being too harsh too quick, but I don't hear anything on there that WMEE isn't already doing, or every other Hot AC/CHR. The station blends into the dial. Same songs, same order, blah blah.... :-\

As far as the ownership goes, the original party who had the idea of it being Southern Gospel is out. It was relayed to me yesterday that a guy out of Ohio has bought it, and wants to relicense it to Columbia City, and move the transmitter there, and go after Fort Wayne. This guy who bought it use to own the old B106 back in the day as I understand it....

Like I said, lots to this, and at least now the "story" I got yesterday seemed to make some sort of sense, as the original one made NO sense.

...well, except for the part about relicensing it to Columbia City, since it would leave South Whitley without a first local service, and that's a big no-no. And I don't think there's much wiggle room to move it any closer to Fort Wayne, either, but I haven't studied it very closely yet.

There was something also mentioned about perhaps having Russ Oasis relicense the current 106.3, and (in theory) taking the current 101.1 site to the old vacant B106.3 site, and doing something directional towards Fort Wayne... Sounded yesterday like a lot of what ifs... Apparently the new owner of 101.1 knows Russ.

That wasn't how I understood it. More along the lines of hoping Russ would "give" them the old B106 transmitter site for covering all the engineering costs for studies on his current 106.3 for relicense, etc. Also part of the alleged appeal was Oasis wouldn't have to cover taxes and electricity for tower lights and so forth on the old 106.3 site.

Wasn't the old County Line 106.3 tower dismantled? Also, I'm pretty sure the new 106.3 barely meets the coverage requirements to remain licensed to Columbia City, and almost certain it doesn't put enough signal over South Whitley to be relicensed there.

I don't know myself, as B106 was before my time here in Indiana. The information I got came from the original party involved, who is now out. I'm not an engineer, just passing along what I was told. ;D

Scott I can say this: 106.3 DOES cover Columbia City decently. By Wikipedia's info (if you believe it) the transmitter for 106.3) is up by Huntertown off Hathaway Road. At this location and 5600 watts ERP they hit CC just fine, if anybody here listens. (I think the "wild bunch" are listening to Wild 96.3 or Hot 107.9.)

I stick to the little bug on the wall 91.5 FM for my local station...I just hope that if the 101.1 group does local coverage they DON'T go after Columbia City sports...then again I think they'd have to get permission from the Whitley County Consolidated School board to cover CC sports and I'm going to bet they will say NAY.
