101.1 Jack FM, 104.3 Jack FM, and Nine FM

Jack! Jack! Jack! Radio's current most popular format. As we all know, 101.1 CBS FM, a legendary oldies station, flipped to Jack on June 3rd. Does anyone think New York City's Jack will do well or fail? The case in NY is different because the station Jack REPLACED was one of the most famous stations in America. Will listeners listen or stay mad and just not listen to WCBS?

Does anyone think 104.3 Jack FM will surivive in Chicago? There is already Nine FM.

Whats your take on this?

I'm not sure I'd call Jack the "most popular format" (I'd say either N/T or country would hold that distinction), though it is certainly the fad format du jour. As far as 101.1 in NYC goes...the old WCBS-FM listeners aren't who the new format is targeted at, so it really doesn't matter if their old listeners have a snit or not. Whether younger listeners tune into Jack, only time will tell.

From a signal strength standpoint, WJMK has a strong advantage over Nine FM. Moreover, with a 3,000 song playlist, Nine FM is different in many ways than JACK-FM. Plus you have to factor in Infinity's marketing budget, and the fact that the company has a good management team in place with its Chicago cluster. They certainly have the capacity for success there. We'll see how things work out...<P ID="signature">______________

My take is that the biggest dream for Nine FM would be to get half the attention in the real world as they do on radio-info.
