101.1 WIIN

As an outside observer, it's fun to watch Randy through Rumor Balls in the air and watch people try to jump up and catch them. :D

The news or news/talk or information format rumors seem pretty solid to me, given the hiring of news professionals in both markets.

But my gut tells me the "female oriented talk" thing is something Randy threw out there just to play with people's heads.

I hope you're right about this one being a Randy Michaels dead end! And, I do agree with you that the news talent that they are assembling includes some pretty serious folks. My selfish desire is that it's something I'd listen to and a radio version of HLN is certainly NOT something I would take an interest in.

But yes, the hirings indicate some form of N/T. So, we won't be looking at Country 101 - WIIN - that's for sure. Although, he has a rumor very much like that rumbling around the New York market...... ;D

Just for kicks...

The New York Merlin Media outlet is using the branding "1019 FM New" at least for the weekend while they quasi-stunt playing a mostly '80s based (with a few '90s & 2000s thrown in) AC format with "woman on the street" brief interview clips interspersed amongst the music. Subjects are usually fashion, lifestyle, family matters/issues, etc. The one live break they had around 6:35pm ET had 3 hosts mentioning the TMZ report on the JLo/Marc Anthony divorce announcement with the teaser "for more news, tune in Monday morning at 6am". It would likely be the first live staffed show on the station.

I noticed that the domains www.1019fmnew.com and www.1011fmnew.com were registered on 7/7/11. Could be curve balls like anything else we've seen and heard so far; even the weekend format in NYC could be a ruse of sorts. The web addresses could easily become "...fmnews.com" at a later date.

It is Randy Michaels, after all.

Food for thought...

If NorthEast Radio Watch is correct... the new call letters may not be WIIN...

... but WWWN.

Could the station end up being "3WN - All News 101FM?" Hmm...

Also, 101.9 New York may not be taking the WYNY calls after all, settling instead for WEMP, as in the EMPire State Building. Pretty much eliminates "101.9-FM NEW!" as a limited-playlist stunt meant to keep the now-WRXP transmitter warm.
