After 102.9 Lite FM flipped to country, there hasn't been an AC format in Minneapolis. Clear Channel will fill that void by flipping KDWB to AC. But now, there's no CHR in the market.
Just for the record, Minneapolis now has 105.1,.3 and .7 KGVZ as an AC station. KSTP-FM 94.5 for decades has been a Hot AC. But as AC KLTE kept dropping in its last months, KSTP-FM has been seeing some of the highest ratings in their history. So 96.3, which last year moved from Rhythmic Top 40 to Mainstream Top 40, this year moved to Hot AC to challenge KSTP-FM. And KDWB, as they have been for decades, continues to be a mainstream Top 40 station.
So all the basic formats are covered with Hot AC and Country now having two stations in the market. You could say Oldies/Classic Hits is not really covered now because that's what KGVZ 105.1, .3 and .7 had been doing. 107.9 KQQL is the OTHER kind of Classic Hits station... no Motown, no Bubble Gum, no MOR artists, no jingles... only Classic Rock hits that crossed over to the Top 40 charts. They're not playing The Jackson Five or Olivia Newton-John. It's not really an Oldies/Classic Hits station. So that's missing from Minneapolis, unless you count AM 740 WDGY, which is running the syndicated True Oldies Channel.
