101.5 Jamz Is On the Air

First: Renaldo goes out Sopranos-style. Howwww orig

Next a montage of songs with "Jam" in them and some dude saying "Power 98 is dead..."

Anyway, 101.5 Jamz is alive. And the voice guy is the same one heard on New York's Hot 97.

First song: "(Party Like A) Rock Star" - Da Shop Boyz.

Also, the website 1015jamz.com is now live.

And incidentally, Paris Hilton *is* going to be freed from jail on Tuesday:

What an incredible disappointment. Didn't think there was anything worse than Free-FM. I want to thank CBS personally for helping my business though :).

Keep up the great work terrestrial radio, you're going to make me a very rich man.

This they really chop off the end of Renaldo's statement or did the stream cut out?

Anyone familiar with the finale of "The Sopranos" realizes the way that segment ended was a poke at that show's ending. In fact, right before the flip, the "title" listed on the STW player was "Sopranos Ending".

I was expecting a confronation with the "guys with drills" who'd chew out Renaldo and then segue that into the new format.

These sweeper-based launches are are exciting as an Arby's commercial. Yaawwwwnnnn......

Still, a good stunt. But cruddy launch.

KZON Launches Phoenix’s Newest Radio Station “101.5 JamZ”

Station to Feature Rhythmic Top 40 Hits From Today’s Hottest Artists

101.5 JamZ…Blazin’ the Valley’s Hitz and Hip Hop debuted today at 5:00PM. The station’s lineup is highlighted by today’s most popular music from artists including Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Akon, Gwen Stefani, Neyo, Chris Brown and Ciara, among others.

“Party like a Rock Star” by Da Shop Boyz was the first song played on the new KZON-FM. An online audio stream of 101.5 JamZ will be available on the station’s new website, www.1015jamz.com.

“Phoenix’s young adult population is growing exponentially and this station is exactly what they’re looking for,” said Mark Waters, Senior Vice President/Market Manager, CBS RADIO Phoenix. “We’ve tailored the station’s lineup to reflect the interests of the typical 18-34 year old whose musical tastes are on the cutting edge of popularity.”

Byron Kennedy, lead programmer for CBS RADIO’s Sacramento station KSFM, will serve as interim program director of KZON. An immediate nationwide search is underway to fill the position on a permanent basis. Additionally, on-air staff will be announced in the coming weeks.

You mean cookie-cutter hip-hop and R&B on the same station? Wait, that is what 18-34 young adults in Phoenix like...nevermind....

Jamz sounds like it's going after Kiss more than Power right now, if this keeps up Power will probably be fine. The station sound like Kiss did three years ago before they added all the pop.
