101.5 just replaced 80's songs with 90's

Many people (including those on this board) has praised Cox for finally freshning up its playlist on several stations. Here in Tampa, Jacksonville and in Orlando. I'd admit I like it too. However it seems to me that with some (One) of their stations they just replaced some 80's songs with 90's fare from Sugar Ray, Stone Temple Pilots and Everlast.

Is the Point trying to abandon its 80's music and possibly move some of its 80's songs to The Eagle. I have noticed "The Eagle" is playing more 80's now. In terms of 101.5s short playlist this isn't helping. Cox didn't really expand the Points Playlist. They just replaced lesser played 80's songs with 90's. Prior to the "Best of 80's and 90's" switch last year they played a lot more 80's music. Such as Howard Jones, Cindy Lauper (Added some in 2007) The B-52's even some Madonna. The songs they played were "Love Shack", "No one ever is to blame", "Vogue" and Ia Isla Bonta." As well as many other songs from Guns N' Roses, Europe and so forth. So instead of just expanding beyond the current playlist "The Point" just got rid of lesser played songs for new ones. Great move, The station still has a 200 Song Playlist.

But maybe there is bigger things behind this. Maybe a WMMO format may come after all. Maybe Cox will finally move 97X on over. I'd be happy if both these things happen.

Wasn't The Bay at 107.3 a WMMO type station and Cox blew it up

Yes they did and I loved it very much. However Cox ACTUALLY had a full air staff with "The Bay". So Cox blew up that format so they can downsize air-staff to two. My guesses anyway.

My mom and I used to love listening to 107.3 The Bay. Had a pretty good selection of music if you ask me. Not to mention the station had at least a little bit of personality.

The Bay actually played currents and classic stuff. It was my favorite station when I moved here in 2001

Yes they did. The playlist extended from the 60's to Current. So you could hear anything from Santana to Lenny Kravitz, Train, The Beatles (Plus all accompanying band members) and so on.

Like said "The Bay" was my station back then. However I do enjoy WMMO whenever in O-Town. As well as the free concerts.

Should "The Point" just call themselves "The Best of the 90's and More." Since the departure of Jeff Callahan (Nick Sanders) 4 years ago the station started to toss more and more 80's songs off the playlist. I haven't heard Falcos "Rock Me Amadeus" since early last year. Or is the station trying to just get rid of the "New Wave" and 80's Top 40. (Well besides Bon Jovi, Prince, Duran Duran and other very select "Point" artists.)

I already know the lighter stuff the Point used to play (E.G George Micheal) is still on sister (The New) Magic 94.9.

The Point had a great thing going in the past few years. Since 07' the station added a good amount of new music. Why did Cox decide get rid of 4 years worth of added songs and replace them with 90's alternative is beyond me. Couldn't Cox just keep the all the songs on the playlist and just added the 90's on top.

Not to mention the station brought in more Jocks. Even if the personality is split with 97X. Now if Joel Elliot can do a Time and Weather Check at 12AM on a Monday Morning that will be nice too.

If you notice too Cox has done similar things with other stations. Example- WHTQ adds artists such as Metallica and Stone Temple Pilots and calls it a "NEW" station. Oh and the "Bone" trying to make itself sound new. "We don't just play AC-DC, We play Nirvania too."

Waste of a Powerful Transmitter if you ask me. Many companies will die to have a Class C Transmitter at 100,000 Watts. In a prime location I may add. Just to have Cox put up a 200-Song Jukebox. Hell I can load every regularly song on "The Point" on my 4GB MP3 and still have 3 GB's left.

i think the point has gone down hill. heer in altamonte i can hear 101.5, 107.3, 94.9 and 100.7 on the regular. on contrast, i was not able to receive any orlando stations consistantlly when i lived in brandon. the only one that came in was on am. i had to have tropo to hear any of the fms....
