101.5 more sponsorships

This morning I noticed Jim's show now says "Trinity Solar New Jersey chime time" at the top of the hour.

And 195 was the "All State Good Hands route of the day" during the 9:48 traffic.

Townsquare a bit strapped for cash?

It makes sense. Why not get some company to sponsor the more subtle aspects of the programming. Here on the Delmarva Peninsula most of the stations broadcast from "The fill in the blank company studios", and traffic reports are always sponsored as well. Why not make some extra money by selling the rights to that segment? It's all about making money......nothing more.

Of course, it's about making money but there are different ways to make money. This smacks of desperation. Townsquare has been making acquisitions - including Millennium. Probably borrowed money, which they have to pay back - plus interest. Maybe they should have learned from Clear Channel's experience.

You remembered those two clients, the times you heard them mentioned, and reacted to them (albeit on a message board). Seems like selling sponsorships for those elements is highly effective.

The only reason I remembered the first one is that :08 has been "new jersey chime time" and nothing else for 23 years.

It's in the nature of these boards that now somebody has a problem with a station making money. Often the general hope or inadvertent pipe-dreaming is that this cannot or should not happen. Stations exist solely for the listeners or provide a daytime playhouse for geekss or jocks to drop-anchor and "get paid for having so much fun". To owners and hard workers, make those bucks and then make some more, put those bucks to work and be the best you can be.

Not really. This has been going on in the industry for a while.

I used to live in the area but now live down in Central Florida. The traffic on multiple stations not owned by Townsquare has been branded with the name of the local cable company, a car dealership and a security company in recent years.

105-9 Sunny-Fm in Orlando and WOMX (also in Orlando) both have things like "Broadcasting live from the studio's of *insert name here*."

It's only effective if it translates into people buying the product.

There sure are a lot of assumptions and hand wringing coming from a simple observation.

When certain things get sponsorships for the first time in 25+ years, it makes one question the reason behind doing it now, rather than ever before.
