101.5 move-in

Does anyone really give a flying flip about this construction project? Is it going anywhere...Fast? Slow? Guess not so why bother doing it at all?

If Davis is still the same culture it was when I went to school there I can only imagine the delays being posed by environmentalists in the area. Some Yahoo searching shows many obstacles in the way of this project. I don't envy those having to fund this effort as it is probably very expensive. The question of will it ever happen seems to still be in the air doesn't it?
Maybe others on the board have more info?

My whole problem is, Does Sacramento really need another station? It is a shame that the FCC is allowing this at all. That is just my opinion. The dial is already crowded with the same format everywhere, can another station really garner ratings and income?

Whatever.. :)

If a station could offer a format to an audience that is currently unserved or underserved in the market, it could grab ratings and make money for the owners.

Sacramento hasn't had a Triple A format since 1995. Would a modern-day version of Z-Rock make it in today's market? It works well in Chico where the owners of 101.5 currently run 106.7 - KRQR. How about a Classic Country or Contemporary R & B format, similar to the old KBMB? Or, perhaps a wider, deeper version of Classic Rock than one hears on KSEG? I am not saying any of these would be sucessful or viable, but there are a lot of format holes in the area.

I would hope the owners of 101.5 plan on something unique. But who knows? I would think if the owners tried to go up against an existing station with a very similar format, they would not be sucessful.

Because 101.3 and 101.7 were way too close.

Let's face it though, the FCC doesn't give a rip about adjacent and co-channels anymore.

You've got KCKS 101.7 in Chico, KKIQ 101.7 in Livermore along with KIOI 101.3 in SF.

That part of the dial is noisy as hell to begin with.

Earlier this week the FCC denied the petition from a Davis citizen claiming that Results acquired the CP to build at the Yolo landfill site via a "loophole" in the Commission's Rules, and never exercised good faith in actually broadcasting from the Dunnigan Hills site.

The FCC's decision is here: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=33761

My guess is this petition was filed on behalf of a local environmental group opposed to the nearby tower construction. They even hired a consulting engineer to attest that Results never broadcasted from the Dunnigan Hills site:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=30104

So, it appears Results is clear to move forward with their site at the Yolo landfill.

While I'm not speculating Results will program 101.5 with anything of much significance, I am looking forward to a better signal from KDVS when they eventually move to the new tower!

There you have it.

So any bets on how long it will be before 101.5 is broadcasting from the new site? I agree with others, I expect no compelling content to come from it, just more automation and voice tracking to plague the market. My oh my am I getting crusty.

This threads gone quiet. Anyone have any updates?

Maybe it's because with so many stations over the air and online nobody gives a flying flip anymore! Also, being in the business for so long it would seem that you should know the right people to call to find out the progress being made getting the station on the air. You are a well seasoned pro are you not? Not trying to be flip I'm just asking thanks for your response, i know you've been around for a great while.

I honestly don't know anyone at Results. I agree with you though, I don't think anyone gives a flying flip. With Results behind the wheel, it's likely to be a copy of some other station in the market. In my opinion, I don't think Sacramento needs another move in.

Anyone have any updated info re: kmje? I know they are still on at 95.5 as well as 101.5 fm
Looking forward to something different

I listened this weekend and heard several promos asking listeners to switch over to 95.5. I assume nothing, just an observation.
