101.5 Observation Today

In NJ we have major flooding, evacuations, power outages and roads closed. I thought Dennis and Judi whom I generally don't listen to did a good job today keeping NJ residents informed. That was the only reason why I listened to them today.

Later on I was surprised how Carton downplayed the storm saying he had no problems where he lived and made fun of Dennis and Judi talking about it and calling them Frick and Frack. I felt Dennis and Judi were doing exactly what was needed today.

Instead of Carton keeping it to the local news and problems which is supposed to be the trademark of 101.5 Carton becomes obsessed with the Virginia Tech tragedy even directing listeners to the CNN website. The Virginia Tech story is important but it's not directly affecting most NJ residents like the weather is.

If people want to hear more news about Virginia Tech they can put on the NY or Philly news stations. If people want to hear and talk about what's going on in NJ especially today I thought 101.5 is the place to tune but not this afternoon.

They talk about national/world things as well when a story is big enough. The station is "Jersey-Centric" but do you honestly think they're going to pretend to live in a bubble? 34 college kids get murdered or some towns have flooding. Hmm, I wonder which topic takes precedence. ::)

I used to live in Blacksburg. There are days where you'll see more NJ license plates than VA license plates. There could be many parents of students or alumni that live in NJ and needed a local outlet to get updates etc. Also, the last I checked, the storm didn't kill 33 people.

Two huge news stories yesterday: one local (nor'easter) and one regional (VA Tech shootings). NJ 101.5 covered them both with news coverage and talk shows. And when Carton & Rossi weren't talking about the nor'easter, 101.5 still ran traffic every 15 minutes with road closures, etc., and they still aired weather updates. What's your complaint?

Millions of people living in NJ are or were directly affected by the storm yesterday and turn on the radio for information. Now I also have Sirius and could have kept listening about Virginia there via Fox news channel. I had 101.5 on yesterday because they claim they are local and the Governor did issue a state of emergency in NJ. I tuned from Sirius to 101.5. but according to some of you I should have just stayed listening to Fox on Sirius. By the way I heard Mary Walter on Fox not to long ago and she was very good.

About traffic during the Jersey Guys show I've heard them miss traffic reports so I can't really rely on them for it. It's hit or miss at times.

As tragic the event was in Virginia yesterday it didn't directly affect more people in New Jersey than the Storm did.

i think 1015 did a good job also. their traffic reports were good and gave you all the roads that were closed. also jim gerheart and d/j also keep listeners informed.

alot of stations in north jersey went off the air during or after the storm wvnj. wwdj, wght , wfdu-fm also wctc was on reduced power as reported in the home news tribune today. which i noticed yesterday morning how i was getting a low signal and no signal in old bridge.
