101.5 The Pole "STRIPPER RADIO"

Its a Stunt. 101.5 will be a Talk station according to Radio-Info
But why? Denver isn't a PPM city. I am sorry for you guys, I live in L.A. and I was teary-eyed the day Indie 103.1 went away.

Doesn't Max Media own these guys? I could have sworn a few weeks back the Denver Post did some story about them and their sister KONN-FM ( Hot 107.1 ) in their business section mentioning they were owned by Max Media, Denver Radio wasnt even mentioned in that article.

The fact they are stunting with "Stripper Radio" is quite funny actually. A group of us went to Denver Pride back in 2007 ( back when 101.5 was still "Martini" ) and all of us noticed several people walking around downtown Denver wearing T-shirts featuring, of course a rainbow flag with the words "Pride Radio..101.5 FM...Denver, Colorado". Wonder if that was a joke, a way to "spread rumors" about a new format ( I have known some stations in the past that have taken this route ) or was 101.5 really serious at the time about doing the "gay pride" format? Of course that format never did become reality at 101.5. Oh not too mention there IS a strip bar within sight of the 101.5 studios..wonder if the Centerfold Club is blasting 101.5 on their sound system while the girls do their thing? ;D

Talk radio eh? Ah..isn't Denver already "talked" out? I mean Denver already has KOA, KHOW, KNUS, AM 760 Progressive talk, Christian talk radio, a few sports talkers, Hispanic talk, etc...is there any kind of talk that isn't already being done in Denver?

Where's the evidence of KTNI flipping to talk? We were told about WNFN flipping to Christian before it flipped to CHR. Denver already has a plethora of rock stations. KTCL (which is one of my favorite Alternative stations, I live in Orange County, CA and I stream almost everyday), KBCO, KBPI, KRFX and KQMT. KTNI didn't necessarily have a hole to fill in the market and it didn't do very well in the diary. There would be a good chance that when the PPM debuts in 70 days, KTNI would do any better because the crowd they attract wouldn't be wearing the PPM (similar to what the President of the Radio Division of Entravision said about Indie). Max Media might as well bring in a PPM friendly station to fill in KTNI's place and who can blame them? They need to make some money.

I hate how all the cutting-edge stations are leaving. PPM kills stations, they do nothing good! The sooner the FCC realizes that, the sooner the PPM will die a painful death!

For some reason I'm beginning to believe this stunt is B.S.. I mean is it normal to sell a whole day of a stunt format (soon to be changed to something else) to one business. Why would they need the money to sell a stunt??? I just don't understand it. What possible format would they change it to anyway?

Yep. Max Media here in SE VA stunted with Classic Chinese Hits "Kung Pao 100.5" after blowing up Mainstream Rock "100.5 MAX FM." Started on a Thursday with a new CHR "Hot 100.5" (carbon copy of your Hot 107.1) debutting Monday morning. No one knew that "kung pao" in Chinese is "hot" in English. "The Pole" could have an alternative meaning...

a Stunt you say? Humm you know i wonder where the proof of this information is coming from? It can;t come from the Gm becasue he just made his statement on the website:

"Earlier this year, Max Media undertook the most ambitious project that this industry has ever seen. With the help of Harris Research, the company launched an intensive research project. Hundreds of focus groups were hosted. Ten of thousands of phone interviews were conducted. A direct mail questionnaire was sent nationally to over 1.8 million radio listeners like you.

Then, the arduous project of looking at the numbers and seeing what they mean and where they point us began.

Today, with Denver as its first market, 101.5 The Pole is poised to begin the next generation of terrestrial Radio formats. The research is in and the numbers are irrefutable. There is a large, gaping format hole that has been all but ignored. Classic Non Stop Stripper Hits, from the 80’s, 90’s and today. This is a very exciting time and we are both humbled and honored to be at the forefront of this new wave of music programming. So please welcome to 101.5 The Pole, the first of what will soon be the lap dance heard around the world. The Classic Non Stop Stripper Hits sound of 101.5 The Pole. Let the music begin! Learn more at www.1015ThePole.com

Jeff Norman – General Manager – Max Media of Denver"

So I ask you all read that and tell me exactly if Jeff Norman did state the truth or not? ANd here is a challenge for you all on this forum...

If you can prove that 101.5 is actually going to a talk format (as the article on the home page stated* then they would have registerd a domain name for the new station. So if anyone can find that and post that info on here then I would have to beleive it but I don't think Max Media would waste their time on some research and surveys to find out what would work in this part of Colorado, now would they actaully waste their money and time doing that if theyt were really going to an all Talk format? I doubt it and why would the GM write such a statement about THe pole in the first place huh? So come on show some proof that this new talk format is really going to happen.

Well, I agree with half of the stuff you are saying. I also have not seen any proof that 101.5 is going to any other format, but I am saying that this indeed is a stunt just to get people to tune in to Indie 101.5.

It makes sense to me, the MD a month earlier begging for advertisers for his station, and telling people to spread the word. Plus the most damning thing happened today when I called the 303 number on the Indie site, a lady answered the phone and the first thing she said was "Indie 101.5."

I may be wrong, if I am my apologies. On an unrelated topic, why isn't "The Pole" streaming anyway? I admit, I was tuned in.

Out of curiosity: Why was "The Pole" just running a set of commercials? Happened at around 4:10 pm today.
