101.5 would make a great top 40 station

The triangle really needs a good top 40 station. G105 is old and pulse 102 has a crappy signal. Top 40 in the triangle really sucks. If Capital Broadcasting had a top 40 station in the triangle like the top 40 station they own in Wilmington
Z107.5 it would do very well.

You're kidding, right? While I agree Z107.5 is great, Raleigh doesn't need another top-40 or rhythmic. There's G, Kiss and Pulse. I still think all the good of Kiss (music and the couple local jocks) should just transition to G105 and make it even better....but Kiss by itself does sound quite fresh and G105 isn't bad with the Showgram in mornings and Tyler at night.

Pulse needs to go ahead and give up. The little engine that could is the little engine that never was and slowly faded away. It could have been so much more....

Wow! Looks like the little engine that could is doing pretty good with a tight and focused format. Isn't that a little embarrassing for the Clear Channel CHR's?

For everyone questioning why Kiss exists though.... there you go. If it didn't then Pulse would be milking the cash cow.

W00t, that may not be totally accurate. Pulse pulls more listeners from G105, than 93.9. Pulse is basically G105 without the Mix101.5 music that is also there and without the pop alternative. It is a straight up CHR. 93.9, is a conservative Rhythmic station. That format has been struggling since urban has gotten too thugged. Kiss has served it's purpose. The only thing that would work on 93.9 would be a Variety format to try and take on Radio and Mix, or Urban to take on K97 (However CC won't out that much money and time into that format. It is not a format you can have one live guy and voicetrack. Community involvement is also needed). I doubt that would put 95X on there since that is holding its own where it is at. It would not push the ratings up that much more.

No BS1012 im not kidding. I could really see a station like Z doing well in the triangle. And really their are only two top 40 stations in the triangle which are g105 and pulse 102. But one of the major problems with Pulse is that they are on two different frequencies and their coverage is pretty bad. Also their name really isn't the best in my opinion. Their needs to be another big top 40 station in the triangle and that would be perfect for 101.5 . With a good name and a good top 40 play list and the right programming I could see 101.5 taking a big hit on G105's ratings. And if you check 101.5 has better coverage than G105 which would also help. Unlike pulse wich has worse coverage than G105.

One other thing to consider ematt is revenues. The last I heard the revenue leaders were WQDR, WRAL, FOXY, then G-105. Why would #2 in sales chase #4? There is no business logic in that.

I know you guys are speculating and just having a fun discussion, but WRAL is already the market leader in women 18-49, CHR's target demo. Changing would be foolish, and they won't.

Pulse probably out performs their signals (beats KISS in target demos), so you've got to give them some credit.

G105 is just not as good as they used to be.

If my memory serves me well, I recall a certain TOH Legal ID G105 would run:
"WDCG --- Durham, Chatham, Orange, Johnston, Franklin, and Wake counties. Arbitron rated #1 for Today's Music, G-105" in a sped up tempo. I never understood the county reference...neat and different concept, I guess ;)
This was 1995/96-ish...

What happened to the G? They used to be THE CHR station in the market (with even some alternative mixed in). I'm assuming Crap Channel had something to do with it? Following the Prism, SFX and AMFM ownership.

If Don Curtis And Them Were Smart, They Should Have Moved The Pulse Over To 96.9. Now That Would Have Kick Butt!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't G105 use to play a mix of Top 40 and Modern Rock back in the early 90s? If my memory serves me correct, I would hear Nine Inch Nails during the evening. Am I right about this?? I was only about 10 years old at this time though.

You are correct... where else could you get your alternative/top40/hotAC fix on one preset? It was G!
I believe they still had their studios our on Apex Hwy (55) in south Durham in operation back then too.

Remember when it was the Bob and Madison Showgram in the late 90's early 00's ?
--yeah, it was much better then, IMO. They did stunts, promotions and chatter that no one else would attempt, and hot damn where their ratings high! Now, it's more like a crap-shot morning show fed out of someone's basement with highschool flavored humor.

I don't know what this means but in the 80s one source where I saw ratings listed G105 as "Top 40". Greensboro had no Top 40 stations, even though it did. WKZL and Z-93, acording to this source, were "AC".
