101.5 wvlk

As I mentioned 590 needs 101.5 as the AM signal has many issues from neglect and that null that runs through where the population migrated.

A few years back, WVLK AM temporarily operated (for what seemed like forever) on a low power, no directional signal at night that covered both south Lexington and Frankfort, areas not well covered on their normal nighttime signal. Not sure what they gave up in doing that, but one wonders if they could apply to modify their nighttime operation to less power, non directional. Probably easier to maintain too. Or maybe they have a translator in the works.

590 needing 101.5 is likely now a moot point considering that change is likely being made.

Looking ahead. Lex appears to have two country stations now based around the "Icons" or "Legends" of country -- artists like Garth who drove the format to new heights a quarter century ago. Neither 101.5 or 96.1 have great signals. 96.1 has Karl Shannon and Jason Bailey. Only time will tell who if any air staff will be a part of 101.5. LM is the most tight fisted broadcaster I've ever worked for. Cumulus has a less than stellar reputation and also tends to be rather tight with a dollar. So how much promotion will either Nash Icon or Hank see with their most recent changes? The questions are almost endless.

So...bottom line, a year from now, who will be on top in the battle between 96.1 and 101.5?

Not that I know much about Lexington radio, but the answer as to who will be on top is 96.1.

But who'll keep marching on because it is their corporate policy to make sure Nash Icon exists in every market, at any cost, no matter what, because it is a brand they have to develop? 101.5....

They actually did apply for 1600 watts at night using the existing night pattern twenty-five years ago but chose not to pursue it. The null towards Atlanta is the reason for the bad signal over south Lexington and the northwest null towards Frankfort is for Omaha.

As I mentioned above the pattern is out of whack and the facility is in bad shape. 590 is wedged in so options are limited for moving the towers, changing the pattern or anything similar.

92.9 is still Nash FM, and 101.5 is Nash ICON. Icon plays older country music. Hopefully there won't be a third.

(Facepalm).....Let me get this straight, there are already two stations in the metro playing classic country and the brilliant minds at Cumulus decide to have one of their own plus the bonus of basically the same name as the mainstream country station in a diary market?

Cumulus needs to get into the one car funeral business because I already know how it will be run.

I prefer the older music more, Nash icon would have a better chance on 92.9 I think.

Although we don't need another country station.
