Some time ago, 101.5 was on the small 5 bay?? stand alone tower on Ewingville Road, pumping out 50kw that hardly made it into NE Philly. They were Beautiful Music, then oldies and back to BM with WBJH calls, back to oldies with WTRT calls, then KIX 101 and a defestating half. The question I have is, how did they get permission years ago to move to the NJN tower with such short spacing, increasing their coverage dramaticly, CBS-FM and BEB were established long before this, plus 101.7 Salem, which was religious back then. I remember when they first utilized the new antenna and tower, and had a money contest to see who the furthest listener was, someone from way down in Maryland won.

There is no "short spacing" to any of those stations.

"way down"?

Maryland is less than 75 miles from the WKXW tower.

I don't know the exact town, but the jock at the time, said it was over 100 miles away, so it must of been quite far down in MD, I think it was Salisbury. It would be nice if one of the former "Kicks 101-1/2" jocks could verify this event.

If there's tropo or e-skip, the signal could go hundreds of miles with ease.<P ID="signature">______________

Well, I think I might have one better.. August 2002, I was vacationing on some mountain area in the Catskills of NY.. Wayyyy north of Woodstock and Saugerties, the name Windham/Wyndham was the town I think. I believe it was due west or slight southwest of Albany. It was a mid morning near a payphone at the camp ( no cell phones worked), and I put the radio on and got NJ 101.5 during some sort of transmitter upgrade/fixing? It was mono, but it was very, very powerful. I couldn't believe it. It had to be at least 200 miles away or so. Broad daylight. Anyone know what it might have been? They were definitely mono that day. It was the 2nd weekend of August in 2002..

They were on a temporary antenna while the new antenna
on top of NJN's HD TV antenna was being built. That
was just courtesy of atmosperic conditions. 99.3 from
Atlantic City gets reception reports from that area
during "ducting" conditions quite often. 3000 watts
at 328 feet.
