WKZQ is only 37,000 watts of power not 100,000 watts.
Anyways when is 101.7 going to Charleston and 96.1 coming to Myrtle Beach? Anyone know for sure the date on this?
I'm not sure, but I did hear dead air on 101.7. Usually, since WMGL moved, I can always pick up a spotty signal from WKZQ (I'm in Hilton Head). For about the last few days, I've gotten a very spotty stereo current on 101.7 and nothing else...If this is the 101.7 Charleston, there is no way they're broadcasting anywhere near full power, as 96.9 comes in much better than this signal and I'm assuming WKZQ is still on the air, so they would rather keep interference down.
My assumption is that either I'm getting interference from one of the local stations or they're testing the new antenna at a low power (probably 1kW or less). If the latter is true, I think we'll see 101.7 on the air by Memorial Day if the FCC gives its blessing.
Also, just to help new people out again who may be confused:
95.9/Bamberg (C3 I think) is moving to Charleston as a C2 on 95.9
96.1/Hanahan (Class C) is moving to Myrtle Beach as a C2 on 96.1
101.7/Myrtle Beach (Class C2 I think) is moving to Hanahan as a C on 101.7
This will mean:
- 96-1 Chuck FM will either move to 95.9 or 101.7 and a second new format will open up. Technically, Miller will own 95.9, but Apex will likely buy this station from Miller. Format is a definite unknown at this point.
- KZQ will move from 101.7 to 96.1 (likely)
- I think the "Bad Dog" format Miller has on 95.9 will probably move to another Miller property in the area.
