101.7 Kisses Tyrese Goodbye

So rapper Tyrese appeared on Kiss 101.7 to promote a new album, and in the process, criticized liquor stores that operate within a close distance from schools. When they went to commercial, the station owner felt Tyrese was "disrespecting" the community and was asked to leave.

Anyway, it's on TMZ, so it must be a big deal. I think the bigger surprise is the fact that a local host in Delaware was involved with this, as opposed to a Ryan Seacrest.

And Tyrese is a SINGER/Actor. He playfully made a rap alter ego at one time, but that has never been his musical 'classification'.

Beyond that, he is right.

Wow. The PD couldn't even spell his name right. The website sucks... the music looks a bit all over the place and look at the poll on the side of their site. I would've asked the same question, "do you get listeners?"

I guess that's the benefit of being the owner. You don't really have anyone to answer to and you get to say and do whatever you want. Having encountered Tony Q. years ago, he's going to milk this whole Tyrese thing for all the publicity he can get out of it. Fortunately, for the rest of us, it's already a dead issue...

Yes, prior to 101.7 becoming WJKS and playing urban music, the previous owners aired CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) music. The calls back then were WNNN-FM aka WIN 101.7. One of our liners read: Piercing the Darkness for you at WIN 101.7.
