101.7 The Beat is now The Beach

Appears that The Beat has become "The Beach"...? Or maybe it's just a summer moniker.
Still leans heavily on hip, hop but seems a bit more CHR friendly as well.
Another sign of the sinking hip, hop format perhaps?

It originally was The Beach, and as to a sinking hip hop format, keep dreaming, and take a peak on the MediaBase CHR chart, which is 99.9% Hip Hop/R&B/reggae....

That doesn't negate the fact that Hip hop album sales dropped by 21% in '06 and by more than 30% in the first half of '07. Hip Hop/Rap is undoubtedly a genre in decline.

Geez, has 101.7 gone more than 12 months without changing its name? I've lost count...

They actually changed back a couple of months ago. Probably had some leftover promotional crap (t-shirts/frisbees) from the last time they were "The Beach" and wanted to use it up. Then, they'll change it again!

I noticed that every time I caught them on tropo here. I thought I was misunderstanding them when they said "101.7 The Beach", but apparently, I was right.
What's with the stereo pilots of Long Island stations. Most other FM stations don't have stereo issues. 102.5 was in mono Saturday night. Party 105 is in mono but transmitting a stereo pilot. The stereo indicator flickers with the modulation, even right under their tower, so something is wrong with it for years. 101.7 also flip-flops between mono/stereo. WLNG is always in mono. A while ago, 92.9 EHM had audio only on the left channel (96.9 was fine).
If you can't get the stereo right, just broadcast in mono, you'll go farther.
Seems like there's just one engineer for all those stations.

The Cherry Creek cluster (WEHM/WEHN/WBAZ/WBEA) has one engineer, who works "on-call" as an independent contractor. Translated, if you have a severe problem that you can't solve in house, then you can ask for permission to call the engineer. The only way we knew of problems like the ones listed above, is when we would tune in the station during our commute to and from work, or if one of our other jocks was listening. On the flip side, rarely did we receive phone calls or e-mails from listeners about such problems.

Party 105's audio is back in stereo. I think it had to do with work they were doing moving WLIR to the same tower as Party in Manorville.
WLIR 107.1 has recently been broadcasting from the Manorville site and has a significantly stronger signal to the west.
