101.7 WJSQ Interference

101.7 is getting interference in Blount County. I haven't drove to other counties to see what it's like there. It sounds like a top 40 formatted station. My first thought was 102.1 bleed over but the songs never match up. I checked every other local station too to see if the songs matched and nothing. Can somebody explain to me what station this is? Anybody else noticed?

Possibly the CHR translator on 101.9 out of the Rockwood/Crossville area. WIHG 105.7 HD2 broadcasts a CHR format as "101.9 The Vibe" on a translator. With the signal coming from up on the plateau, it stretches pretty far at times. I've picked it up in various places around the valley. I'm surprised Star 102.1 hasn't complained as it bleeds over against their signal too sometimes. Also, on a side note, I doubt they actually feed the translator via 105.7HD2, as I noticed the other day, the programming on 101.9 was about a minute or 2 ahead of what was airing on the originating 105.7hd2 signal. Anyway, I live in Loudon Co & I can get 101.9 in various spots (as well as 105.7's HD signals in certain areas).

Could possibly be. It's just kinda odd though because I don't even get signal of The Vibe living about 15 miles away from Star. While we are on the topic of translators can somebody tell me about this new station on 94.9 completely blocking out WAEZ? It started today and was strongest about a 3 mile radius of Foothills mall. It is broadcasting call in talk shows and I listened for an hour and didn't hear any ID's. Is this possibly a pirate instead of a translator? Normally pirates don't bother me but I listen to WAEZ regularly and before today it came in great throughout Maryville. It's very irritating

I actaully just checked back on 94.9 and it's completely gone. It may possibly be a pirate.

Much like AM translator's, the FCC does not require the on air signal of a HD2, 3 etc., to be broadcast directly from the on air HD signal of the originating station it can legally be delivered by other means (STL, internet, etc.) The delay you hear is created thru the HD air chain which typically delays the on air HD transmission by as much as 60 seconds. The 101.9 VIBE signal is directional to protect Star 102.1 and is located at 2820 feet above sea level on the old WIHG tower site on the back side of Crab Orchard Mtn. When Star is broadcasting in HD (which is very intermittent), it generally blankets any signal 101.9 puts out toward Knoxville. Because of the low terrain relative to the VIBE's transmitter, it does tend to cover areas around Watts Bar Lake with a listenable signal.
