101.9 becomes vacation station on 9/26?

I heard an announcement on CD101.9 that says on 9/26, the height of non-vacation time, "Your chillout station becomes your vacation station."

Someone please explain to me what Vacation Music is, I'm confused. Is it like James Taylor "jazz?" Is it like when you go on vacation and you only bring three CDs, and you forget how much they suck when you have to listen to them for the thirteenth time? Or will just it be some jockless nightmare format? Does Emmis realize that "Vacation music" was replaced on Sirius by a JIMMY BUFFET channel?

I think I've given up on radio.
______________

Did you ever think that perhaps this might be a Fall Book promotion, with a vacation given away every day?

When was the last time a format change was teased ON-AIR on an established station?

Yup, they're going to be starting the "Trip-A-Day" giveaway many Smooth Jazz stations across the country run on that day. Not a musical shift.
______________

It's what I'm hoping they do.

WPAT in 1996, and WLIR teased about switching to "The Island." WQCD even teased about switching to Chill last year.

Praise the gods of radio. All is not yet lost. :)
______________

I remember 6 months ago CD101.9 hinted at a format change, and nothing happened. History has a way to repeat itself

I sometime visit to the NYC metro area about two times a year and CD 101.9
is my favorite station out there (the second being CBS-FM, which eventually went away). Alongside with the chill music, they are the softest station in the New York radio market.

Also when the time comes to travel to the Hershey, PA area, there is a smooth jazz station I would like to try out. They are similiar to CD 101.9, but focuses more on smooth jazz artists. I don't know what kind their signal reaches but they are located in Starview, about 20 miles south or south-east of Harrisburg, PA.

Getting back on-topic, CD 101.9 is the perfect choice for soft rock music than its competitor 106.7 Lite FM. The last time I visit the NYC area this Spring, Lite was playing Alicia Key's "Karma", and Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone!". Both songs don't belong to Lite's playlist. It would be a dumb idea for CD 101.9 to add these songs to their playlist.

So the possible flip won't happen unless there is a major announcement by the station's management.

You're referring to WSJW 92.7.

"Smooth Jazz" as a format no longer exists. It's an urban classics with smooth jazz, more emphasis on Kool & The Gang, The Temptations and others. Very schizo.

We welcome all local radio questions... however, and with every last bit of due respect, I haven't seen such an innocent question since someone reported a country station teasing that it's "going Urban" - when it turned out it was a promotion for singer Keith Urban.
______________

VERY HIDEOUS you mean! Since the demize of it's creative but not well programmed chill format it now competes with it's sister station KISS-FM, WRKS for an urban ac audience.
Incredible!

A fall vacation format can segue into a late fall all Christmas format.

Merry Christmas and to all a good night.
