101.9 FM News - It "Stinks"

Looks like Walter Sabo has found the secret to what could be 101.9 FM News' success - and it smells great.

That's right - air fresheners, all bearing the station's likeness. They were Liz Aiello's idea. Then again, it was also Liz's idea to hire folks like Pete Salant (a good guy) whose background doesn't really meld with an all-news station.

It all starts in a taxi - tuned to 101.9 FM... Any cabbie caught listening to WEMP gets a free 101.9 air freshener.

As you would expect, one cabbie complemented the station's extensive traffic reports.

And that's going to mask the "odor?" (and I'm not just talking about the cabbie either).

I tried to tune in WEMP on the web today to determine chiefly what sort of effect their ambience would have on the house's hygiene, and maybe to hear how it sounded, too. Pooch said the colors on their site look okay to her ; some of those off-pinks and light teals and Hallmark hues, as opposed to the demonic black and metal and red of, say, your basic Alt Rock site.

But we couldn't bring 'em up on this slow backup computer. Won't be able to have the good one back for a week. The player provided by the WEMP site we found looked like the coin receptacle for a video game or some intergalactic phone booth. I don't know if targeted females 25-54 are ready for that kind of flight test. The Pooch here wasn't, and she's still in that demo by a few weeks ....(OUCH) ....

... by quite a few years yet.
