101.9 - Format Change Coming Up On Friday? <VIDEO INSIDE>

Something's up on 101.9 FM LA Nueva. They just aired a commercial during primetime on Univision Channel 34. The commercial had no music, just sound effects, it was very colorful, very fresh, all graphics, and made no mention of the station name. All it said was that a REVOLUTION was coming to 101.9 FM this coming Friday. Interesting tie in because Mexican Independance day is this Friday.

???

Hmm...maybe another 101.9 FM News like WEMP in NYC? Just my .02 cents.

From Univision in the #1 Hispanic market in the US? And with a teaser in Spanish, using the word "revolution" tied to the anniversary of Mexican Independence, 16 of September?

For all we know, it could simply be a name change & a rebranding. After all, LA NUEVA is no longer new. They've been around for a while so LA NUEVA name (meaning NEW) doesn't fit them anymore. Revolucion 101.9, maybe? The graphics are very colorful, very 80's like, kinda hipster-ish and the voice is definitely not the current one. It sounds younger. Not only that, but the 2-3 seconds of music they do play towards the end sound very techno. Maybe they'll switch to spanish Top 40? lol Yeah right! lol Or maybe they'll flip it to spanish dance? hahaha

;D

Is Piolin still doing strong in the ratings?
Maybe FM Spanish Talk centering around Piolin? I don't think they would blow up the station and not involve Piolin somehow.

Hey Woody, Explain that one to Cox here in Houston. Country/KKBQ has been The New 93Q since 2000. Supposedly it stands for New Country but whos supposed to know that?

Or maybe they're bringing back Nicole Sandler, Chuck Moshontz, and the whole crew with the AAA format. There is a format hole here in LA to be filled you know.

Anyone??? No???

Networked Spanish language talk has been tried quite a few times, from Radio Labio to Radio Única to RadioVisa... and failed.

Piolin is tied for 18th 25-54 in LA, and tied for 10th 18-49.

Well, K-LITE is available too...for those who are old enough to remember.

Absolutely. I liked them because they had a large playlist and weren't afraid to use it and they didn't sound as prepackaged and sterile as KOST. They actually let their personalities talk. Of course, that is why they are no longer with us. Sigh.

I have a strong feeling it's going to be some sort of dance/top 40 crossover (english/spanish) combination. Kind off like an Amp Radio/KIIS/Super Estrella melting pot. Dance is very hot right now, at least in the latin clubs I play at. As a matter of fact, some of La Nueva's On Air personalities hang out at my club.

???

The most memorable thing about K-LIT is the number of times the hyphen was "stolen" from the set of brushed aluminum letters on the front of the building on Sunset.

Competition for Latino 96.3 then, I guess.

Maybe. But then again, I don't know anything. It's a speculation. For all I know, it could be all polka!

This is kind of a shock, given Regional Mexican is a very popular format in LA... also, the fact that KSCA has the best signal out of all the regionals (correct me if I'm wrong). If they do switch format, do you think they might move the Regional Mexican to 107.5 and put Top 40 on 101.9?

Who's beating Piolín who speaks Spanish, anyway?

Latino supposedly billed under $7 million last year, about what some of the brokered stations in languages I don't understand bill.

I thought KLVE was doing the best out of all the other Univision stations. I don't think this has to do anything with 107.5.
By the way guys, are we talking about Spanish or English Top 40? Univision launching an English Top 40 in Los Angeles would be like Clear Channel or CBS getting into Regional Mexican or Spanish Pop in Los Angeles.

KSCA has, maybe, the second best regional Mexican Programmed signal. KLAX, for the population locations. KBUE has the disadvantage of three frequencies (two being the same) but has barn-burner signals in the biggest HDHA's.

Regional has lost share in many PPM markets, likely due to changing demographics which give the 18-24 demo to English language stations among Hispanics since there are negative immigration numbers during the last 7 years.

If they do switch format, do you think they might move the Regional Mexican to 107.5 and put Top 40 on 101.9?

KLVE is the leading Spanish langauge station and has been, on multi-book averages, for much of the PPM era. It's now among the market's top two or three 25-54 stations.

Who's beating Piolín who speaks Spanish, anyway?

KLVE (by double) KRCD, KLAX, KBUE, and occasionaly one of the others like KDLD (at least in the sales demos, as I don't look at 12+).
