101.9 Monroe

Dont know when the flip happened. But it was Star 101.9 last week when I listened. They are playing Hall and Oates Shes Gone right now and the station is The new Mix 101.9--Classic Soul and R N B.

I grew up with KNOE. I remember the flip to FM 102 Rocks! And them playing Dio in dayparts back in 87 or 88. This is a sad time tor radio. I just heard Star 101.9 for the first time last Tuesday. Within a week its gone. Every station I really listen to is in another state somewhere.

It sounds rather odd, no local liners, songs back to back with no station identification, very Urban/A/C sounding, but their website has all white homies listed as the air staff, this is somewhat confusing, I hear local commercials tonight, but nothing about the name of the radio station, the website says it is still "Star", but the imaging is saying it is "Sweat". What is going on there? Aha! Just heard a local liner, finally, says it is called "Mix" now, WTF? The website says it is Star?

Never heard a urban ac named mix before either.. usually that is a ac based name.... looks like a quick flip

While it's usually an AC or hot AC name, Mix isn't rare on urban AC's by any stretch of the imagination. The former KXOK 97.1 in St. Louis ran urban as "Mix 97.1" for 7 or 8 years. Cumulus uses it on several of its urban AC's as does a station URBan Radio Broadcasting operates in Toledo. Even one of Clear Channel's highest rated urban AC's is Detroit's Mix 92.3!

102.5 in Laurel-Hattiesburg used to be called Mix when it first became urban AC in '96 or '97. Mix isn't used as much as, say, Kiss or V.

BTW, this isn't KNOE's first foray as being called Mix. Remember the Mix 102 days in the early-to-mid 90s?

You are very correct and I thought about that when looking at names. However, that was back when they used the 'rounded' names.

I know some may disagree, but when I say the positive calls have been incredible, they really have. This was a good move. And to be honest, it was a move that I thought another 'group' would make. I suppose I gave them too much credit.

I've been pretty busy and conditions have not warranted themselves for FM DX the past few days, but some free-time this morning and discovered the change rather late. KNOE-FM/FM 102 got much listening from me back in the early 1980's when the "weather was right" (tropo enhancement) while growing up in Lincoln County AR. A much better "Mix" of top 40 on FM 102 than what KKYK (103.7) Little Rock AR did with that' stations tight playlist.

I just tried listening again, and, although I like the music, it just sounds drab, or maybe it's the presentation that is boring, is not exciting to listen to, more like background sound.

Dave, it just may not be your cup of tea. I have not had a single negative comment from an Urban listener since we started. The Facebook inbox is flooded with positive comments and the people outside of the metro are very happy to have an R&B station. For instance, Nachitoches has really embraced us. Oddly enough, I get tons of comments from Alexandria too, which is unusual since they have an Urban and a UAC. My streaming stats have tripled since the change.

I worked there from the '89 - '96 which included the "FM 102 Rocks" period. Then we morphed into just FM 102, The New Mix FM 102 and then just FM 102.
What they've turned into now is a sonic disaster. Sure some of the music on there now is pretty good, but the station has no identity.

Is Bradley still the GM now? I'm thinking it must be under another GM by now.

I thought I'd bring this up. Facebook has a Monroe Broadcast Alumni group and it has a lot of pictures of the old staff members on KNOE over the years.
