101.9 Radio Now

and it sounds like

CRAP!

I didn't expect much. It is low bit rate sounding mashed and distorted CHR music.

Is there a Clear Channel preset on modern processing?

I'm guessing they're still working out the kinks. you're probably hearing a soft launch right now, and they may only later in the day officially announce it.
Can you give us a sample hour of the songs you're hearing so far?

Yes I heard processing tweeking. It got better after a song or 2 then within moment all the dynamics went away. High began to roll off very very sharply as on all CC stations. Then it began to distort. The distortion left. Then came back.

The stream is now working.

Misery - Maroon5
La La La - Auburn
Paparazzi - Lady Gaga
Give you hell - All-American Rejects
Take it off - Ke$ha
Club can't handle me - Flo Rida

Looks like they are going to go with KWNW as the new calls. Analog only no HD.

Signal is decent at my current location but not sure how it will be a few more miles east of me. I'm in Bartlett right now.

Direct competition is the markets CHR Q107.5 (& 96.1). They are simulcasting now in preparation for the CHR War. This gives them a little better coverage in North MS and especially Desoto County.

All the right moves - OneRepublic
Disturbia - Rihanna
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
Billionaire - Travie Mccoy
The only exception - Paramore
Irreplacable - Beyonce
Dynamite - Taio Cruz
Tik Tok - Ke$ha
B.O.B. - Rivers cuomo
OMG - Usher
Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas

I know, I just mentioned FM100 because their ratings are not great (as discussed here earlier) and there is decent overlap between Hot AC and CHR stations, so it could damage the station futher.

i think it definately gets in q 107.5's way. they've been on a roll so it slows them down, thus it might help fm 100. in the end who wins between q and this new one....who has the bigger signal?

101.9 definitely has some audio problems. Speeds up/Slows down and breaks up. I have noticed a dish pointing west on the 95.7 tower in Midtown (ch 24/30 studio). Has that always been there?

This mess is distorting like a badly over driven AM station. Also sounds like some cascading codec sufferage too. You just can't decompress & re-compress audio to many times before it sounds like garbage.

Never really liked the sound of 107.5 either. Aren't they using an Omnia box? If it is is is the worst one I have ever heard. Other Flinn owned stations: WYLD, KBUD, & KCJF's Omnia's sound fantastic.

along Sam Cooper and especially on I 40 on 101.9 the high blend or whatever you call it on my radio is having fits due to the signal. Wondering is proximity to FM 100s stick could be partly to blame. Always completely lost Jonesboro within 2 miles of that tower. The signal might start to be a mess our in Cordova/Germantown at that rate I am hearing otherwise. Sort of the like what happens to 107.5 Downtown.

The RDS PI code at least has the correct call letters on it.

If you're having trouble then that means I'll definitely have trouble. All I really have at this point is a portable Insignia HD that seems to be a bit defective. I usually lose all the analog stations around I-40 & Sam Cooper, even FM 100, to intermod or overload or whatever. Yet the low power HD? It never drops out. Even from the stations like 101.1 and 97.5. Go figure.

Having looked at the coverage maps on radio-locator I gotta believe it's gonna mostly be a car radio station on the east side of town where the ears are, especially with all the competing RF in that area.

I think they all operate about the same Zach. It's a circuit board radio that pretty much comes off the line just like the rest of them. The one I have isn't very good either.
