But anyway, eluding to Mac Davis, he was on the ABC sitcom "Rodney," starring
comedian Rodney Carrington. Mac portrayed Rodney's father in-law. Cool show,
one of those mid-western/southern comedies.

Hanging On The Telephone is great too. I just saw that video for the first time on VH1 classic the other day, man Debby Harry looked so spaced out. Certainly one of the fun Blondie songs. My least favorite would be none, I like just about all of Blondie.

I gotta disagree. I owned three Blondie records (Parallel Lines, Eat to the Beat,
AutoAmerican) and they were packed with filler.

I also liked the Regina song that Tom and Val played "Baby Love"

At the time (1986), initially, many thought the singer was Madonna.

Cadillac and karlyle This is my best answer I can give you here and hence I will NOT cut down WLAN in the process unlike what you did for The Rose.

First off, you did not kick The Rose's ass. They are an Adult Contemporary station and yours was a Top 40 hit station. Totally, two different formats altogether. There is almost no way that someone in the 90's listening to Annie Lennox, Jon Secada, etc on The Rose all the time would want to listen to WLAN. That same comparison goes the other way as well. There is just two totally different demographics that both stations go for. For the most part you will not find somebody liking PM Dawn and SMV listening to The Rose, I just don't see it happening. I am one of the few that could honestly listen to Cartel, My Chemical Romance, and Paula Deanda on a station like WLAN and listen to Michael Buble, Rob Thomas, and MercyMe on The Rose with no problem, but I am the exception to the rule. I even go for Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Audioslave, and Regina Spektor on my extreme end.

Second, there is a totally different crew on The Rose than what was before. Michael C. Anthony who is a honest, quality person was not on The Rose in the 90's, but on WIOV. Patsy Sympson and Val Baldwin wasn't either, they were on WRKZ. All quality people that have done much probably to improve on what they had. That is why I love The Rose: ABSOLUTE QUALITY!! The jocks are always nice to talk to and the music is the highest quality I have ever heard. Yes, they may not have the "glamor" numbers, but the quality not quantity counts. It is shame for the people of Central PA who have the opportunity to experience such a great community service, music station to miss out on it and not give it a shot. But the way I see it, it is their loss, not mine, I found it. The Rose is the number one station at work and they are kicking WARM's butt and that is a fair because they are both AC stations.

WLAN is no doubt from what I have heard from others one of the best Top 40 stations in the country, music wise. But you will not say that The Rose sucks because it is ceratinly as far from the truth that you can get.

I agree with Scooter...it's hard to be humble. I was on The Rose from 93-99...& had a great time!

I believe it, they had to be great in the 90's too!!! Although, I missed out on them back in the 90's but then again I was only a teenager then.

Kicking WARMS butt? #1 at work station? Says who? Last I checked WARM was ahead of them in both the York AND Lancaster ratings. Granted, it is a close race. We'll see how things stand soon when the Fall #s are released.

I was at FM-97 back in 1985-1988 and I dare say that there was a lot of cross-over listening from the Rose to FM-97 to WARM at that time. Yes, we were the Top 40 station in town, and yes, I know all about what demos are all about. But when the numbers came out baby, we were number 1 in every daypart, in practically every age demo (which for this FM-97 Music Direcotr translated into a huge 25 cent and hour raise ;D) Things have changed a lot since then...the evolution of commerical radio has , in my humble opinion, taken a down-turn: not enough personality anymore, the music today sucks (for the most part), and probably the worst thing.....there's really no way for air talent to get started in the business any more, and why would you want to??? There's no place to go and in a market like York/Lancaster/Harrisburg, there's no money, so what is the draw??

But I digress from the topic.....maybe another forum.....

Hell, you'll be lucky if you can afford to live comfortably! I've been out for a while, but what's the average salary in this market these days? 30k-40k a year? It's pretty sad when you can sling garbage bags for the same amount!

Hmm, got to ponder that one? : Don't think I have lost my credibility at all, I have heard good things about FM97, yes I will never explore that because I am more than contented with 101 The Rose, don't need to. Also, when I do listen to something else other than The Rose (especially when they play Christopher Cross's -Sailing) it is WPLJ (my nighttime station because I hate Delilah) and if I am in a "disco" mood or dance hits which happens normally on Sunday Nights, I listen to 106.7 Lite FM. So yes I have a weird range of stations from the biggest city in the United States NYC to Amish/Wide Open Country with Lancaster, PA. Totally two different areas but I like the music I hear.

Of course, the BIG two up in NYC are not even close to my Wide Open Country Lancaster, PA station!!! My Rose is the best! I LOVE The Rose and sort of like the other two, more so with WPLJ than 106.7 Lite FM but I don't mind their mix either.

WHOOHOO!!! Congrats on the ratings book. It was awesome, gains in all markets and now No 7 in Harrisburg and No 2 in Lancaster (4.3 to 7.9) awesome!!! No 5 in York almost nearing WARM-FM!!!

Hell, you'll be lucky if you can afford to live comfortably! I've been out for a while, but what's the average salary in this market these days? 30k-40k a year? It's pretty sad when you can sling garbage bags for the same amount!

Long time lurker, first time poster. But after reading these posts I felt that I had to add my $.02 (which is pretty close to what I make an hour...30-40k? Not even close).

I'm guessing there are a few types of jocks who work in Central PA:

1) Those who have been here for a long time, are well known and established, and don't have a desire to leave. The "local celebrities"...your Ed Coffeys of the world.

2) Those who don't have big dreams and are happy to live and work in an area like this for as long as they can.

3) Those who are stopping by for a few years while they work their way up to the "bigs".

So why would someone put up with low pay, minimal recognition, and the weird things that go on in the clusters around here? For the love of the business. Yes, there are still some out there who don't dream of being the next Stern over night, who don't expect to go from college radio right to Z-100, and who know it'll likely take years to actually be able to afford anything fancier then ramen for dinner.

There's a lot that's attractive about a place like Central PA. First is the fact that there always seem to be jobs around here, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get your foot in the door. There's also a lot of opportunity for advancement for the right people...the old fashioned types who aren't concerned about "doing their 4 and hitting the door". And there's the geography, a place like this is perfect for someone to grab some p/t hours in Philly, B-more, or DC.

For all the smack people talk about radio in Central PA, I think it's the perfect place for someone to settle down and become a big fish in a small pond, or for someone to hang out for a couple years and build their resume.

It is a blue kit, 24 inch bass, 13 rack tom, 16 inch floor, 12 snare (small).
