1010 Changes Again

"Additional coverage will appear on the rebranded “1010 AM Alumni Radio” WJBR-AM, which drops the “Podcast Radio Tampa Bay” moniker, and moves to a sports talk format on Wednesday (Aug. 20)."

Will this help or hurt WRBQ is my question? In the short run when football is on their ratings may increase but after it's over? In my case, when a station I usually listen to for music decides to add sports, I go to another station for music. And more often than not, I don't go back to the station that decided to mix sports into their format. I'm not a huge sports fan [except for soccer and ACTUAL wrestling, not that WWE crap] so when a station flips from music to cover sports, I'm gone.
I know their ratings aren't what they used to be [heck, when I was working down there in 1982 at a station, WRBQ was all over the place and almost untouchable and # 1 in the ratings most of the time]

It probably won’t make any difference. I looked at the Bulls schedule. The game are mainly at night when listenership is traditionally low for adult formats anyway. It won’t affect the “at work” listenership. There are a couple Saturday daytime games, but I doubt it will affect much.

And they had football games too. Ok, maybe not specifically 1982, but I remember at some point during their ‘80s heyday they had the Buccaneers games on.

How many times has 1010 been a sports station?
Each time they do that, they inevitably fail.
I believe they were the sports betting format for a little while.
With that in mind, there should be an over under as to how long the sports format will last this time.
I'll put in for under 6 months. That will cover the College football season.

I don't believe they had football games on back then, unless they added them after I had left the area. I know I listened to them a lot and they were one of the stations I applied at when I had moved back to the area. Never even got a "Thanks for applying but get lost" note from them.

More articles on the 1010 change* are starting to appear now, in case you haven't seen yet.

Concept already feels like if Florida Man Radio tried to launch a sister sports station. Especially with that logo coming out of the gate.

Just shut it down. No one has had a clue what to do with 1010 for the last 50 years. Plus it has an awful signal for 50,000 watts.
