1010 Sports New Line-Up

I just heard that there will be a NEW line up on 1010 Sports starting Monday 7.16.07! What happened to Al Keck? SportChixs will be Noon-3 8)

St Pete Times quotes Keck as saying essentially tv takes more of his time, so hes sticking to the tube. Gee..a New York based sports talk show is imported. I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked.

Keep the lines open so we can get our "Traffic and Transit" updates on the GWB and the BQE and so on...

I remember when they flipped back to sports, the paper quoted someone as saying there was a lot of support "inside the building" to bring back the format.

Since they have no ratings, does 1010 qualify as an "inside the building" success.

I can see selling with low ratings, but we have two all-sportsers with NO numbers in this market. How do they survive?

There has to be at least some alternative to the Animal, right? Too bad we're stuck with what we have. This market deserves so much better. :'(

No wonder that the Trop was 90% filled with Yankee fans this weekend. And will someone explain to me how the Yankees/1010 are allowed to skirt around MLB territorial rights and broadcast a team from a different market - in the SAME division, no less - into Tampa Bay? Why hasn't Stu Sternburg filed a protest?

I am surprised that George Steinbrenner hasn't filed a protest in that Tampa Bay is considered a home market for the Yankee's - not the D Rays. Just remember 1010 advertised themselves as a "local" sports talk radio station. I guess you need to understand that the Bronx is considered local to the folks at 1010.

Will somebody please ban this ingrate? ::) Look, dude, if you have nothing nice to say about this area, then don't say anything at all. Maybe you should take your condescending attitude and high-tail it back to the Big Apple.

Many cities that have a Major League Team have a radio station broadcast the teams game.
The Yankees get almost as much publicity as the D-Rays, If the D-Rays start winning then maybe you will not
see as much Yankee coverage.
Then again there is as much Jet talk in Miami as there is Dolphin talk.

Ingrate? I am extremely grateful we have 1010, The New York Yankees, and George Steinbrenner right here in Tampa Bay. Aren't you? Mr S. has done many wonderful things for the Tampa Bay area, and he asks for nothing in return. Maybe you are the ingrate?

Well, since the Bronx Bombers have their games on the air here in Tampa, wouldn't it make sense to air Rays games up there? Now that would be a brilliant publicity move by the bigwigs at the Trop.

BTW I caught some of the afternoon show today and as I suspected, it was all Yankee talk, and the host said they'd get to the Mets "in the second half of the show." That is when I turned it off.

Just a guess, but I think that WFAN will not allow a stream on another station. You can hear M & MD on the WFAN stream.

The D-Rays would get about 2 listeners in New York. which is 2 more than theyhave in Tampa!! ;D

Much as I would not like to see it, if the Rays owners don't start attracting (read: spend real money instead of using the revenue sharing) pitchers for a bullpen, these owners and the team will be gone by 2010...

The MLB radio rights package has all sorts of holes in it that allow out of town teams to broadcast within another team's territory... 1010 can broadcast any of the Yankee games from Yankee Stadium accept those involving the Devil Rays. The Yankees must get a waiver signed from each of the other AL teams and NL teams they play that would allow them to broadcast into Tampa from the away stadiums. Some teams have signed others have not ( I do not know which), but it is important enough to Mr. Steinbrenner to have his broadcast on in his home market that he has his broadcast staff work fairly hard at getting the waivers signed. George wants to be able to hear the games in his car when he needs to, with his broadcasters. And he pays for it. Satellite radio only offers the home team feed from wherever a game is played.

Whoever airs the Yanks gets a small stipend from the Yanks and sells ads on games that some people want to listen to (whether or not they hear it on 1010 is another issue). They also have some advertisers that will buy in, so they are guaranteed a profit, albeit a small one.

I wonder if the Devil Rays even turn a profit on their broadcast between paying production costs and buying the air time based on their ad revenue.

You mean that "The Boss" can actually hear 101 in his car ??? Amazing...

No... The Devil Rays have no say in it. The radio rights agreement goes back a long way and has not been ammended in this regard. Since the Devil Rays are the only team complaining, no one is listening.

Sundays Game in tampa had the yankee broadcasters on XM, I really do not know why!
