1010 The Beast: One Year No Numbers

Mike,

You are correct. I think 1010 (then WINQ) learned about the Kotex from WSUN-TV. They did the same thing to keep their old RCA TV transmitter dry.

More from the 1010 is lame department. Flipped it on Sunday afternoon to get a NASCAR fix while running errands. I believe this week's race (Texas) was a Performance Racing Network and not an MRN feed. I am guessing they wired the board to put the PRN feed on the same fader as their normal network sports feed. Thus, we were hearing the race and the network feed simultaneously due to some bleed through. When the automation switched to spots there was no problem, only when it returned to actual race feed.

Asleep at the wheel again.

Speaking of lame, how about them airing a "local" sports show from...are you sitting down?...11P-1A, Saturday night/Sunday morning. What's wrong? SNR Saturday postgame not good enough? Or is it actually the Wild 98.7 X Factory pre-show? Whatever the case, it's radio brutality at it's coarsest--and the show isn't even listed on their website.

Oh, and do the powers-at-be there also have something against Arnie Spanyer? They replace his show with Tim Brando's from 7-10P.

If you ask me, this is what their afternoon/evening lineup should look like:

Bobby Fenton 1-4P
Brando 4-7P
Spanyer 7-10P

That's right, no Sportschix (let them go to Tan Talk), and no God-forsaken Mike and the Mad Dog. If people 'round here are that insistent on listening to them (which I seriously doubt), let them listen to that show on the WFAN website.

I'm guessing its not so much anything against Arnie, but that Brando is a more , pardon the reference...visual.

He's seen locally on CBS TV every Saturday with the SEC game of the week, and he'll be doing Lincoln/Raycom SEC hoops again this year, in addtion to CBS hoops work.

Arnie has been..well, Arnie..overnights, late nights.. all radio,..doesnt have the national pub that Brando has.

I'm also thinking SNR isn't too thrilled with being bumped by M and M from NYC, so they probably cut a deal to tape delay Tim.

We are rearranging the deck chairs on the already-sunken Titanic.

The definition of insanity is to try the same thing over and over again and expect different results. By that definition, 1010 management is insane. Three sports formats in eight years -- three losers.

Try something different, Air America, brokered, Spanish, anything. Or sell the station.
