1010 WINS Messes up their reporting of Sherman Hemsley's death

Late in the 5am hour today, 1010 WINS reported Sherman Hemsley's death over a theme song. However, it was not the theme song to the Jeffersons The Show he played GEORGE JEFFERSON on. Instead, they played the theme song to THE JETSONS as if GEORGE JETSON has died I Googled him. Jetson is still alive!

Meet George Jefferson!

Weezy his wife!

His boy Lionel.......

Someone at 1010 must be really young and didn't know the difference, or they did it to be funny.

OMG. I hope somebody has audio of this. It would go so viral, people outside the area hearing this happened at a New York all-news station will go, "But I thought that FM News station signed off last week?"

What is worse, they had Astro on the live line to make a comment and he said:

"Rut are ru rawking about? Ru the rell is Rherman Relmsley?"

Some stations use The Jetson's as their Traffic Intro....Re;Jefferson't Theme Rush Limbaugh would frequently play that song on his show when doing a story about one of New York's Liberal Democrats....

This sort of error gives all news stations a bad name. Everyone makes mistakes, it's a fact of life. However, when reporting on the death of an actor, the appropriate bed of music should be used if any at all.

As someone else mentioned, I hope this wasn't a crude joke. There's nothing funny about death.

At least WCBS-AM 880 got the theme right when George Jefferson or Sherman Hemsley died.

Thank you. I was on the air on 880 when word of Sherman Hemsley's death came in. The first announcement was "clean" - no TV theme music used. In the hours that followed, The Jeffersons' familiar "Movin' On Up" theme was worked into the mix.

Yes you did. It would be great if the 1010 audio just happened to get posted!

well I do know in NYC market WINS has higher ratings for all-news over WCBS 880. although I find 1010 WINS to be tacky because of their Teletype background I respect the listeners of NYC. I understand why CBS kept 2 all-news stations in NYC.
