1010 WINS, WCBS 880, or WABC 77

I was wondering what you guys prefer to listen to: WINS-AM, WCBS-AM, or WABC-AM. I would also like to know why you prefer the certain station. I am not affiliated with any of these stations or their parent companies.

I think the answer depends on the format one is looking for -- WABC is a very different animal from WINS and WCBS. I wouldn't tune in to WABC for news, and I'd wonder how many listeners really do, given the two other options 24/7, with the addition of whatever shakes out at WEMP.

In addition, any given listener is probably either interested in WABC's conservatalk lineup, or not. For what it's worth, I'm not.

What do you think will happen at WEMP? I personally think that they should either decide to have music (AC) or talk and I know it is not likely to have a double format when it is done stunting. But I think that they need to become a talk station because we only have one that is really good (WABC).

WOR mornings. (Gambling) or WCBS.

WINS late mornings - early afternoons.

WOR late afternoons-early evening. (Malzberg-Savage)

WABC late evenings early morning. (Bachelor-McIntyre)

Believe it or not, my AM band listening lately has consisted largely of WEPN... but ironically, it's pre-dawn, i.e. not local programming... I usually catch the final hour of "All Night" and the well-produced "Sportscenter AM". (Yep, I'm an early riser.) Afternoon AM band listening, not as much as before...

Well, Merlin didn't hire Pete Salant for nothing... unless they plan to send him to Chicago to look after their non-news FM station there...

WCBS has the best signal here in Southern Connecticut, and as has been stated before, it's gererally a better coverage of events out here in the Hinterlands. Having the Yankees games available at work or in the car is also an added bonus! ;D
I also like 1010 WINS when you want a no-nonsense rundown of the news. In many ways, I think the 2 stations complement eachother very well in the market.
Can say as I listen to WABC either. Not really interested in the right-wing political offerings that seem to form the majority of their programming.....but that's another story!

Meanwhile, some consider hearing John Sterling on the radio an added minus... ::)

John, I can tolerate.....somewhat. Yes, he's quirky, his calls are sometimes way off, but he can be somewhat entertaining in a cheesy sort of way. Suzyn...well he voice sounds like fingernails down a chalkboard to me. No offense to any Bostonians, but her accent doesn't help matters.

Too many of the pbp are trying to sound like Vin Scully.

I don't know if John Sterling is doing that on purpose or he was hired because of it.

He is not the only one.

...and there is only ONE Vin Scully.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

WCBS tends to do their news on a 1 hour cycle compared to Wins where its fast paced.

Look at Washington DC WTOP is modeled after WCBS while WNEW is modeled WINS.

WABC doesn't belong in the same sentence with WINS or WCBS. WABC is a 50 kW bastion of syndication. WCBS and WINS are live and local...and more profitable. :)

I live out of the market. Yet I lisen to WABC over 4 hours a day. During Spring baseball, I'll be listening to WCBS-AM. And when I want business news, I listen to WBBR like I have since Bloomy took over the WNEW-AM frequency. I agree that WCBS and WINS comliment each other.

I love all three. I love WABC for the interesting talk, I love WCBS' conservative and organized pace to the news, and I love 1010 WINS for their fast-paced news coverage, the teletype and the best three sounders (opening themes) in news.

Either way, they are all better than FM News 101.9. ;) ;D

I like listening to Jennifer Lopez sister on WCBS 880

She is a great anchor on 880AM. She manages to do the news without going tabloidal.
