101X Off the Air

It started around midnight, right after Loveline. The station has been off the air for 22 minutes now, but the significant thing is if you turn up the station really loud, you can hear KNUE 101.5 out of Tyler. It's faint, but it is there, beyond the buzzing sound where 101X should be. This goes beyond tropoducting and signal skip.

This is a phenomenon that has yet to be discussed on this website, at least in my visits here. I really hope someone sees this message in time before 101X goes back on the air so they can experience it themselves.

As far as non-discussion, I wouldn't say that! Just go to the DX and Reception board! :)

Is there a term for this phenomenon? It happens rarely, but this doesn't really qualify as "signal skip" or "tropoducting." This is a local radio station with its 70 dBu's distributing a slight buzzing sound, and the next station over with the same frequency (albeit 250 miles away) coming in faintly, yet audibly. Just heard "I Can't Love You Back" and KNUE's imaging. It's been about 50 minutes now, and still no 101X. I bet the owners of Thundercloud Subs and D-Town Body Shop are very upset!

I hate to be "that guy" who replies to his own posts, but now 101X is playing the live version of Loveline. They usually play the previous night's show, from 10p-12a here in Austin. I am a Loveline junkee, so I usually listen to the previous night's show on 101X from 10p-12a, then at 12am switch over to lovelineshow.com and listen to the live show (which is transmitted from KROQ in Los Angeles from 10p-12a Pacific time (12a-2a Central time).

Will 101X start broadcasting Loveline's live show (from 12-2a)? Or is this a total fluke and 101X's third shift guy called in sick (hence the 60 minutes of dead air and the first time in 101X's history they play a live show of Loveline)? Only time will tell, but this has been one helluva night for 101X, Loveline and Austin radio.

It's common, especially in the summer nights. In San Marcos, 93.1 XHAAA-FM is listenable when the conditions are right at night.

Not to long last month, I think, 101x went silent causing hypersonic radio to air at 10:20 pm, instead of 10 on Saturday. It happened right after 101x live on the street at 9:58pm. It was like they were dialing a phone number, and right after dead air. I said to myself. "Hmmm KTSA 550 AM new format dead air, the new sound of silence. :D Didn't pick up anything but silent stereo as the stereo indicator was still intact. No buzzing sound but clear silence.
