If this is the station I'm thinking of, it's a AAA format Hayes is doing. How's it sounding? Jocks yet?

Well Jimmy sad to say that KRKY went back to square one, meaning that it is once again simlucasting another NRCBroadcasting station.. KCMV out of the mountains, and to let you know it wasn't Haye's idea to do that one bit he had big plans for KRKY but that gotten all blown up thanks to someone at NRCbroadcasting.

Sorry to hear that. I'd heard he wanted an airstaff and to bring back some really good radio. I was looking forward to hearing the future KRKY.

Yeah so was I, and I was really upset when this happened. And it was a really good format to free from commericals and everything else and I think Tim was truly behind this rediculas move for some odd reason.

John Hayes is also the mastermind, with Tim Brown, behind KCMV, the station that is now simulcasting. I spoke via email w/ NRC CEO Tim Brown about the move recently. KRKY has been and still is up for sale. His philosophy was to aim the KCMV programming, news, info, wx, traffic etc at both ends of Trail Ridge Road in Granby and Estes Park. They also cover a lot of Summit County ... it's a good idea really. Mountain based businesses now have some exposure on the northern Front Range and I70 corridors ... the format is good. The playlist is eclectic and broad. I'm not a fan of some of the jocks I've heard, but overally, I'll listen to 102.1 before other regional stations right now.

Now what a minute thats not what John told me in email at all! That is really different, in fact he told me "The entire decision was out of my hands. I programmed krky as it was and was not in on the decision that was made. I do not want this information published on the net, but I am obviously not as happy about the situation as you might think. That was my sound that is no longer there. I also agree krky had potential" <---So what is the real truth to this matter I wonder? I liked the music on 102.1 the way it was before acutally the music now is ok but it's not far from being unique in any way shape or forum like it was. Now unless I am being lied to here (I sure hope I am not) but if I am that would be quite disappointing. Krky had alot of great prodentional to become a very different and one of a kind radio station. KRKY could have become that in it's own local way, well now it;'s like it was before NRC took over it. That is a real sad thing to see a good station that could have had a good future, but TIm decided to turn it into once again a station that simlucasted another station. ANd I am sure Estes Park and the rest of the towns in the valley would love to advertise on a not local station. They well never get any local advertises in Estes park or any town in larmaier country to advertise on KCMV becasue it's not local, bussiness like local radio stations not a simlicusted station!

I don't think there's much confusion actually. I agree that the decision to abandon KRKY was no doubt out of John's hands, totally an upper management decision. I also believe that he's responsible for KCMV sounding the way it does. I emailed Tim for answers to questions about KRKY I wrote about in my upcoming column. He specifically gave props to John for being behind the programming on KCMV.

I agree that the mix on KRKY was unique and inspiring for us music fanatics ... and it was nice there was nothing in the way of the music. I interviewed with John last summer about KRKY. I was looking forward to seeing his ideas about local radio being implemented in Fort Collins. Money was obviously needed to support Jack FM and KCUV, as well as developing mountain properties. KRKY was the casualty in the greater scheme of things.

Unless I'm mistaken, wasn't KRKY a rhythm based chr before nrc bought it?

As a listener who travels into Estes Park a handful of times a year, and across to Granby a couple of times, with forays into Summit County, I actually paid attention to the advertising ...

The music is broader than what I hear on BCO, KCUV, and KTNI right now ...

Yes 102.1 was once a Dance station before it started to simlucast KCCY, correct me if I am wrong but as I recall doesn't a rich person own NRCBroadcasting? I think i remember reading about him a long time ago when they purchused 1510. My other question is why did TIM buy 102.1 if they had no $$$ to back it up in the first place? To me that would have been a very poor bussiness decision to purchuse a station that they couldn't even afford to keep and where they are still trying to find a buyer?
The one thing i noticed about KCMV is there is more talk then music most of the time, i really liked where it was no talk and more music and i think you Chris would have made a great addition to KRKY with your music selection and the way it was going to be. With KCMV being an "Album ROCK" station, its not as uqniue as the 99.5 The Mountain is.

NRC Broadcasting is funded by Phillip Anschutz money. The same person who's behind AEG Live, which is Anschutz Entertainment Group. Tim Brown is married to an Anschutz daughter.

I don't know WHY Tim bought 102.1 specifically. I would have to assume that when NRC was buying properties, it came up on the sale block and was a good price, and was thought of as a good potential investment property. I'm sure that while all things are for sale to the right buyer, they've made a rather wise decision as to what to do with the broadcast property itself. It works just fine for KCMV/KRKY to be a single entity services both entrance sides to RMNP.

Well, radio isn't about music now, is it? LOL. Seriously -- I think the format is EXTREMELY different than KQMT. No comparison at all in fact. I heard Robert Randolph, Gov't Mule and Ray Davies on KCMV the other day --- you'd NEVER hear that stuff on any Denver based station (except perhaps KCUV).

'preciate the compliment in there too, friend.
