102.1 The Edge/KDGE Identity Change?

Is it me or is 102.1 The Edge going for a name change? Not to long ago, I was listening to the station. A promotion to win tickets to a concert ended with "...on 102.1 KDGE."

Don't tell me that they're flipping soon??

I know they're not stupid enough to change formats as it's the only regular terrestrial alternative rock station on DFW's dial, aside from Active Rock "97.1 The Eagle" (and CBS-owned "The Indie-Verse" on KJKK 100.3 HD3 and "The Music Summit" on KZPS 92.5 HD2 on the HD radio dials). But I'm wondering if they're losing their "Edge" and going for a name change.

The "Edge" moniker doesn't really mean much any more. Those of us who remember the original version of KDGE on 94.5 in the late 80's/early 90's realize that today's incarnation is light years removed from its beginnings. The original really was on the cutting "edge" of music; a unique playlist I have never really heard duplicated anywhere else on commercial OTA radio.

I think these bumbers for the edge have to do with the muse concert as KDGE has been doing the same during some of their ads for the muse concert win em before you can buy them promo. Also when an ad came on for the muse concert it mentioned 102.1 the edge so I don't think the edge branding is going away. I think they are trying to make a pun off of madness by muse where they say m. m. m. m. madness.

Obviously.

But in the PPM era, why bother with the call letters?

The original point was are they moving from "102.1 the Edge" to "102.1 KDGE" for their branding?

(Sure glad you explained that call-letter thingy...)

Yeah, there are fountains of useful information and radio geniuses here, eh?

I think I may have found out why KDGE has been going by KDGE lately! Their license is up for renewal later this year and they had an announcement on the air today about it so maybe they are required to do that so people know who they are so that they can be referenced to in complaints to the FCC?

As long as they give a legal ID at the top and keep doing their community service shows on Sunday mornings, I don't think that's even a consideration.

I've been liking their rotation better lately, though. More currents and fewer of the old grunge nuggets that turned me off. More like the old KDGE of the late 80s.

Ahh, that may explain it.
