102.3 The Beat Flipping To Christian

The headline is confusing....
That aside, I find this quote from the rbr story quite interesting:

KFMK-FM, licensed to Round Rock TX, is going for $6.25M cash.

I seem to recall Steve Hicks wrote checks totaling more than $10 million to buy out the competing applicants for that 105.9 frequency, back in the Gulfstar/Capstar days.

Huge enormous FAIL.

There is no competitor. This makes zero sense.

105.9 will be Christian AC and branded as Spirit 105.9 like Crista's Spirit 105.3 in Seattle. They registered the domain name more than a month ago, well before any deal was announced.

The headline is wrong. Beat is staying at 102.3, 105.9 The River is said to be changing to 'Spirit'.

Gosh Austin Radio sucks! Only Kiss FM and Bob FM (sometimes) is worth listening to!

Don't think your special either, San Antonio. Your market sucks too, except for KTFM and Jack.

The only Good radio markets out there is New York and San Francisco.

God Hates 101.9!

I don't listen to anything in Austin but KLBJ-AM and The Horn. And I only listen to KBLJ for the syndicated stuff at the top of the hour and on the weekends. The Horn...well..I like sports and HATE the Zone

If San Antonio's market sucks to you, I'd hate to hear what you think of Houston. San Antonio's dial has ours beat 9 ways to Sunday. Austin...well, not so much. It really has went to the dogs over the last decade.

Yes and I owned the website houstonradiosucks.com at one time. Blame it on Clear Channel and the Federal Government.

Good variety in the late 90s to 2001 you had the following to choose from:

KLDE 94.5 Oldies
KBXX 97.9 (when P-Diddy owned it)
KHYS 98.5 Kiss 98.5/103.3
KKPN 102.9 The Planet
104 KRBE was good when they had "The Beat"
Majic 102 before Clear Channel bought it.
Let us not forget the KYOK AM 1590 Solid Gold Soul in 1994, and Yo 1590 Raps (in the early 90s)

You point the fingers to Clear Channel, and then to Radio One they are to blame the bought all the mom and pops and sold them to junk media outlets to make a quick profit.

One of my friends would beg to differ with you on that. He's been saying Houston radio sucks for almost 20 years now! He's also been saying Dallas/Ft. Worth and San Antonio beat Houston hands down for the same amount of time.

While this may be true in some cases, Houston has had very few mom and pop owners on the big FM sticks. KQUE 102.9 and KRTS 92.1 may have been mom and pop operations, but they were about the only FM's to fit that bill. Even during the time frame you mention, KBXX, KMJQ, and Kiss 98.5/103.3 (KHYS/KJOJ) were owned by Clear Channel. KMJQ was purchased by Clear Channel from Noble in '93. I'm thinking KYOK was also owned by Clear Channel in '94. KRBE was owned by Susquehanna, which has always had a reputation for being a lean, but fairly decent to the few employees it had, operation.
