Maybe someone contacted Elf Temp Engineers and got soem magical little people in there to repair the transmitor?
 
They could've shut it off..it was on long enough to keep the license alive for another year. If (and it seems to be a big if) the sale is iminent there's no reason to pay the power bill.
Of course, I could be 100% wrong.
