Mountain's ratings have been in the toilet for a while now.Any suggestions on what entercom should do with it?My suggestion wouldn't be popular at all so what do you people think?

Would not want to see that happen. When I've had my fill of "Music of Your Life...for Rockers", I tune in to the mountain. You're not going to hear alot of those cuts anywhere else.
Then, the local artists come on and I'm back to Free Bird for the millionth time.

I like The Mountain. It fills a niche in this market, and it's a nice alternative. I wish Entercom would pay more attention to it, maybe a little promotion, some resources, etc.

How about a third country station? ::)Just kidding ;Dthis valley and radio are lousy for variety. You get country, classic rock, top 40 and about four or five soft rock stations, jeez.

And if you live in an urban area, you can't get certain stations loud and clear. In my home in Wilkes Barre I can't get "The River", Gem 95.6, LIte 94 or any powered Hazleton frequency. So if you take that into account, the activity and choices are limited.

I wouldn't change a thing about the Mountain. It has a good core of loyal listeners who listen to nothing else. Don't forget, the Mountain does not cover a large geographic area so it will never have huge ratings (the same goes for the River and EZ 103, among others). You can't squeeze blood from a stone after all. If it's in the top 10 I would consider it a success. I frequently listen to the Mountain myself, especially at work (though I occassionally listen to EZ 103 or 92QFM, and WHLM-FM at home). They could use some advertising to remind listeners they are out there.

In my opinion, I would leave The Mountain ALONE!!!!

But, if they were to change it... here's what I would do:
1) Mainstream AC
2) Country (with an even mix of Yesterday's and Today's)
3) Oldies

This is why...
1) The River isn't heard everywhere in the market. 102.3FM is in the middle of the market.
2) JR 93.7FM is okay; but, needs to have a simulcast partner to make it.
3) Since Q92 & 100 left and the WICK/WYCK oldies have disappeared. WFBS is the only Oldies around.

But, it wouldn't take much to segue into Oldies.

Ok Radioboss,
Not to be picky but

1) The River isn't mainstream AC, it's Classic hits. Qfm is more mainstream AC
2) Why would Entercom put on a country hybrid to compete with their own dominant Froggy?
3) Gem 107.7 IS OLDIES. Am I the only person that can pick this station up? I live at the south end of Wilkes-Barre and the main signal and it's W-B translator stops on scan at my house.

Because if it was Country, it wouldn't entirely compete with Froggy. I said that 102.3 would do a mix of Country from the 70's through today. Blending more than what JR 93.7 tries to do.

I'm sorry I wasn't aware that GEM 107.7 was doing Oldies. My apologies. The last I knew they were doing "The Buzzard" and I guess that Kevin & Ben blew it up and for good reason.

Thanks for the clarification on Q92 and The River.

But, they would still be the choices for a new format change IF it was to happen.

Because the sales folks at Shamrock only know how to sell Rock 107. They abandon any chances of making ESPN Radio 630 / 1240 AM successful and with the retooling of 92.1-100.1 FM. They haven't evidently been educated on how to sell multiple stations without whoring the other stations.

But, if Entercom were to blow up a format; it shouldn't be The Mountain. It should be EZ 103. The Mountain does have a good following. EZ 103 is just trying to keep Route 81 from making anything on Lite 94 or even prior to that with WNAK-FM/AM.

Leave it as it is. As has been stated, there is a small loyal group of listeners who don't listen to anything else. I have to admit, I have it on in my car, and have for about two years. That's right, I put it on my car radio two years ago AND HAVE NOT CHANGED THE STATION SINCE!!! I'm a little different than most people, but I don't think I'm alone.

Seriously, leave it be. Any format change is not going to make it bill any better for the suits. The Mountain Guides are a great idea and it's progressive rock music for adults.

Two things here:

1. WFBS is off the air. That station went dark in May.

2. WARM runs a very good oldies format, although the pattern null goes through Columbia County. If you live in Luzerne or Lackawanna County, give 590 a try. The station dumped the right-wing hate clubs in February.
