102.3 The Stream Goes ALL CHRISTMAS...ALREADY! (South Bend)

The folks at AMP are the laughing stock of the South Bend market. All Christmas effective yesterday.

Poor Art, what a tool....

Let's see, they already dropped WNDU-AM from the market. Maybe they will finally give up on 102.3 and realize with its poor signal, it will never be a major player in the South Bend market.

Does anybody remember when 102.3 was Country as WGTC and really had some killer numbers, before
WBYT signed on -- Doug Montgomery, now with Clear Channel in Grand Rapids was the OM/PD and the
station kicked butt

According to sources, The Stream isn't the only Artistic property planning on going all-Christmas.

The bells are evidently supposed to be jingling in Lafayette after Halloween.

I remember those days. When they signed on it wasn't too long before 15 Country became Oldies 1490 and the rest, as they say, is history.

Isn't he amazing? Another brilliant idea and he came up with it all on his own. Art proved is "art" of negotiation by losing Bob & Tom in Lafayette. The only thing he has left that he pays for is Purdue Sports; will there be more "art" of negotiation displayed and he will finally lose that too?

Lurker, from what I heard...and granted, this is second-hand information, AMP opted not to renew Bob & Tom because they're planning on taking the station in a different direction after the new year. Let the speculation begin on that one. ;D

The competition is already reminding their sales personnel that Bob & Tom is no longer a sales option for Artistic. Grabbing Bob & Tom might not be such a bad idea for KHY to pick up.

Hey Apollo, I say this with a smile but Art always has a better idea than spending money; even when it is his only staple he has. His idea is always better, more creative, more innovative; and how can you argue with him, just look at his continued success in his markets. I'm sure he'll respond to this post and I hope he does. It's always fun to see what he and little artie, artie the one man party have to say.

Yes, I do remember WGTC... and the argument could be there. However, they would need to find some niche format to be somewhat successful. When GTC signed on the air there wasn't a country FM anywhere near South Bend (Chicago, maybe?). Country FM was brand new around here and we so desperately need it. So basically that was a fluke of a situation and I highly doubt that they would be able to repeat that success. For example, take Sunny 101.5...do you really think they be pulling numbers like they have today if you put that same signal on a 3KW stick? I doubt it very much. People want to be able to pull in a reliable, stable signal that doesn't require an outside aerial.

If someone could come up with a format that the area would embrace....you might be able to pull it off. But with all the IPODS, online music, etc....those days of WGTC will never happen again.
