I certainly remember WEFA from 1969 to 74. 3000 watts in glorious mono from the top of what is now the Waukegan Building at 4 S. Genesee Street. It was an old bank building when WEFA was there. Back in the 69 to 74 era it was a middle of the road music station.
The original licensee was Goldie Luftig under the name WEFA, Inc and put it on the air in 1963. She bought the construction permit from Ed Fritz who was in Michigan. Luftig had ties to the Victor and Polk families (Polk Brothers furniture); the Victor family was involved in the ownership of WXFM 105.9 in Chicago.
In 1977, the station was to Roger Kaplan, who improved the facilities with new stereo studios and a new tower on O'Plaine Road. Lost track of things after that was I moved out of the area.
