102.5 format change?

Something should be done with the music format. Ratings are always near bottom, playing the same bands over and over again every 1-2 hours. I posted a reply to Cowhead on another topic, so I just copied and pasted it here to make it a new subject for anyone to give their opinion. Anyone want to mix it up more? And Rock out to what classic rock should be nowadays?

Cowhead... Any chance 102.5 will do a semi-format change? I mean I love Led Zep and Rush, but I mean we hear the same tunes and the same bands all the time. Every 1-2 hours Zep, Rush, Doors, Floyd, Ac/Dc, etc etc are played. Metallica only has the Black album played and its like 3 songs? People tune in for music and great Djs that are funny. Music is lacking and that ratings for 102.5 is always near bottom (2.5). Sure your show and bubbas will bring it up some, but what about different music.

Suggestions will be like more hard rock 80s bands and classic metal. Skid Row, Poison, Anthrax, Pantera, Megadeath, Suicidel Tendencies, Slaughter, Warrent, Queensryche etc etc etc. Not everyone will agree but it will bring in a huge group of listeners that only listen to old tapes and Cds cause its not on the radio. 102.5 is a classic rock station, so lets play classic rock and mix it up more instead of the same bands every 1-2 hours.. its boring..really boring. Lets make the station fun. cause thats what the music is lacking...fun!

Brian Medlin mentioned on another topic that 96.1 K-Rock is stunting right now playing all Metallica non-stop no Djs till this Friday morning at 6am they say .. " Are you ready to Rock"? Maybe finally a Classic Metal Station? Or old Metal and Todays? They were a classic rock station like 102.5. Maybe 102.5 can do something simular instead of the same old music nonstop. Reminds me of old 98rock when they went to Pure Hard Rock in 1990!!

Just a comment...I worked for Paxson, when they owned 102.5. The station had a HUGE music library. I played everything from classic rock to newer stuff, it seemed to work. Then, when Clear Channel bought the station, they truncated the playlist. I even seem to remember, because we still played music on CD carts, that several dozen boxes of CD's were dumped in a room for purging by staff. The station wasn't the same afterwards. In short: the large companies do the music surveys, have the consultants etc with the end result being, just about everyone plays the same stuff. I wonder what would happen if any station in the Bay Area decided to play some "deep cuts." I think, listeners would find it refreshing.

HAH! I have friends that worked at a station in a state that shall remain nameless, had the largest music library in the state, over 4,000 cds they pulled from. When Crap Channel bought them they were ordered to cut the playlist in half, then were told to reduce it to 400 songs. Now they are down to playing only 200 songs over and over and over. And my friends [the few left working for them] wonder why I no longer listen to the station. The ones CC eliminated know why I no longer listen. Hopefully, someone hid the CDs away somewhere and they'll be able to pull them out once CCs reign of terror is over.

It's not only Clear Channel. I remember when Cox's Rock 105 in Jacksonville was actually a good station. Their playlist now is about half of what it was 10 years ago, and about 25% of what it was 15 years ago. It's a sign of the times. It's all about narrowcasting now. Well, that and doing things cheaply. ;D

and just a heads up, I may have misread an earlier post, but 102.5 is a Cox property, not Clear Channel

102.5...then WHPT "The Point"...was owned by Paxson Communications when I worked there. Paxson sold out to Clear Channel and then stations were spun off when Clear Channel took over Jacor's stations.

Back on the subject of 102.5 they really need a music format change..same songs/bands every other hour.. What they play 20-25 bands only?

Yeah at your little stupid comments here and there.I'm angry at all classic rock stations upper management that dont know how to make a $$$ and play the same crap over and over again. Yeah thats why I do listen to CDs and old Tapes. I do like new music (dont get me wrong) but for classic rock out there, its sick.70s rock is over and done with ( at least it should be)
