102.5 goes Hot AC(ish)

It made no sense to be trying to be the third (or fourth) rated Urban/Top 40 station. Now they can be the third (or fourth) rated Hot AC station :).

Woohoo! I mean, it's not like I was listening to their current format. I'm going to give them a try. So far muuuuch better than before. (Although I'm breaking the rules and streaming since I can't actually listen in the office on a real radio).

They are pretty much all over the place here... within a few minutes I heard Jessie's Girl and "Grenade".. I'm not so sure if this will work for them..

Before there was The Party, didn't they try that with V102 or something?

Let's face it, they are going to be third or fourth at whatever they happen to be doing. ::)

I hear you. I much preferred V-102.5 over the Party.

Yes, they did. They were the Party, then Venus, then V-102.5 (going from Venus to V-102.5 was mainly just a name change more than anything else), then back to The Party, and and now apparently back to.... ???

And Jack and Mix do the same and they are #1 and #2 W 25-54...

Guess it can work, eh?

So far it's working in our office. 4 people rarely agree, but thus far the new 102 has been agreeable by all. I'm sure some of the teeny poppers that were listening aren't happy though (that's what 98.5 106 and 107 are for).

Given the titles people are reporting, they're trying to be a second-place "Jack"... "Jackie," anyone? ???

Bingo! I have to say, it's filling a void. My concern is that no one will realize it's changed since they aren't even promoting it and the name stayed the same. Plus, they have their FB wall where no one can comment. I think the name is appropriate as party, as that's what it's been known as for years, despite V and Venus being on there at some point. I would think it would be a great station for teens AND teens' parents, as most parents of teenagers were in HS and college the 80's/early 90's.

Speaking of which, yesterday afternoon I heard an announcer introing "Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones, while actually playing "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc. ??? Didn't know if it was an inattentive dj, or if some automation was screwing up.

On my way back from my girlfriend's parents' place in Scottsville, KY just past noon today, I punched up 102.5 and was surprised to hear "Stayin' Alive" by The Beegees. I thought it might be either e-skip or another station bleeding over or some kind of lunchtime specialty show, if not outright stunting or an abrupt format flip, but I kept listening and found that it was clearly "102.5 The Party", albeit no longer a rhythmic CHR.

The tagline I've heard a few times is "Feel Good Favorites" which is a very AC (or Oldies) sounding positioning statement. Just a few minutes ago they played "Legs" by ZZ Top, which sounded quite out of place. It seems that they are still playing currents in pretty heavy rotation; to point, I've heard Bruno Mars on there twice in the past 2 1/2 hours. It doesn't fit the traditional Variety Hits template, more like a Hot AC that plays some 80s tracks. "Somebody Told Me" by The Killers into "Talking In Your Sleep" by The Romantics into "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow was interesting to hear just now, though.

As an aside: how did Kidd Kraddick do ratings-wise during his run on 102.5? My girlfriend (who just turned 28) was a strong P1 for Kraddick before 102.5 dropped his show, and she now resorts to button-pushing during her morning commute. In contrast, she's not particularly fond of the Bert Show on 106.7, saying that they talk over each other too much and have too much stuff that she finds contrived. To each his or her own, I suppose.

Did Saga Communications buy 102.5 and turn it into a Q108 clone? That's what is sounds like to me...

I like the station ok but wish they'd do something about that
terrible signal. (Good to hear "Nasty" and "Miss You Much" by Janet Jackson since no one plays those songs!)

I like it. Of course, I liked Venus* + V. We do think this is a permanent change?

*As a man I am enrolled in the Venus-Anon local chapter...

I have to say, I'm really liking it. Other than hearing Pat Benetar and Bruno Mars way too many times, I have no complaints (and that dang lousy metro signal). They seem to have less commercials and less talk than anyone, which equals a lot more music. Plus, they give traffic and weather. With Jack I feel like I'm hearing the same ol' tunes over and over and clueless as to what's going on new. I've never stayed tuned into a Nashville station as long as I have this one the past several days. Bravo.

I say, hit the road Jack, there's a new Party in town! (Can we get that on a billboard?)

The problem with the Party is you can't get them in an office setting. I can get all the stations except them and they just don't come in at all. They would get more popularity and listenership if you could get them in offices.
