102.5 in Milwaukee now simulcasting WNOV 860

W273AT on 102.5 is now simulcasting WNOV 860 - much better signal on FM than the CB-like power of 5 watts on AM at night overrun by Toronto...

Funny, in Waukesha it doesn't come in at all so I guess it's not a better signal then.

In a vehicle from Waukesha, probably not. They are mostly concerned with covering the city of Milwaukee, any suburbs that can get 'em would be a bonus.A good outdoor FM antenna mounted high enough and pointed right at 'em would probably work. This is their coverage map (supposedly):

Low powered translators can often travel farther than expected, so I think it's a good bet that 102.5 is receivable somewhere within Waukesha proper. From my travels to that fine city, I recall that the downtown area straddles the Fox River in a valley which is likely to impede reception of a weaker signal like 102.5 from that location. Topography can just kill a low powered signal. Perhaps that's the issue where you are.

However, I would imagine that some "field checks" of 102.5's signal from a car driving around the area would find that you can still get the station from more favored portions of Waukesha and from most other suburbs of Milwaukee.

according to FCC filings, the translator is being sold. And it's gonna take three payments
to complete the sale...so it's not a cheapy. 50 watts, vertical polarization for now.

amazing, considering the sellers are a non-profit religious broadcaster in Suring, WI...
65 miles north of Green Bay... and how this slipped from Port Washington to Mequon,
to Milwaukee, absolutely amazes me.

If I remember correctly, Madison's WNWC/102.5 has a rather potent signal. I'd guess this may cause a nasty mix with the translator in the Waukesha area and possibly even further east (?)

Is this translator actually on?

Last visit to Milwaukee a couple of weeks ago revealed a fairly decent signal from LIFE 102.5 (as mentioned before, WNWC) all the way to the western portion of Milwaukee proper and nothing but static on the frequency once downtown. Not good.

At 6:54 this morning, I logged W273AT here in Lake Geneva, (49.4 miles according to Radio Locator).  I got it on my Walkman-type personal radio.  I was surprised as heck.  It was a fight with Madison's WNWC, but I happened on the sweet spot for the radio's ear bud antenna.

They were in a commercial bock with some national ad & an ad for a local food store at 16th & North, (couldn't begin to spell the name) that specializes in African-American ethnic foods.  The store with even help you if you need a ride.

I was using the Insignia NS-HD01 personal HD radio.  I've had the radio for almost a month & found it to actually be one of my FM DX machines, believe it or don't.
