102.5 is getting ready to make the move

Looks like the tower work on the old communications tower at Pickerington Rd and Lithopolis Rd is about complete, the new antenna is in place and work was going on inside the transmitter building today. so shouldn't be long before the move takes place.

Rumor has two buyers...

WCLT want to buy the stick and so does Wilks. It will be interesting to see who wins.

on the install, Makes sense they got to have it on air soon.

interesting choice of buyers, I wouldn't have pictured either..

Wonder what Wilks or WCLT would do it with? WCLT would do some form of local radio but what format?

Wilks I dont know what format they would put on it.... they could move their new country format too it but I dont see them doing that...

Will be interesting.. needless to say if WCLT gets it we know it wont stay country with WCLT already pulling respectable numbers in columbus various books. (for a signal that dont target Columbus)

That's what I was thinking. I've been hearing about this ever since we moved up here two years ago.

Rumor I heard from folks at Wilks is to move the Hot Country format over to 102.5 and do a greatest hits of the 70's, 80's and 90's on 107.1

If WCLT picks it up, look for them to pull off some kind of Oldies or Classic Hits format.

No more country!!!

What about a current hits format to compete with 'NCI or Power?

Or a MEGA OLD SCHOOL/MOViN type to compete with Magic 989?

It'd be hard but worth the battle.

If North American had the money, they would probably take a shot at buying that stick, but for a while they were in talks with Wilks on selling.

Last I heard is that Wilks wants a 4th FM signal and this would provide just that. If they were able to swallow North American they would probably ditch 107.1 all together and sell it to CVCO or something.

Could you imagine if Wilks had both clusters:

920 WMNI - Nostalgia
95.5 WHOK - Classic Country
96.3 WLVQ - Classic Rock
99.7 WRKZ - Mainstream Rock
102.5 WNKK - New Country
103.9 WTDA - Maybe Oldies or something?

Talk about a strong cluster of stations that could be billing a few dollars!

In any other market I would hope to see Wilks controlling as few stations as possible.   But in Columbus it could be beneficial.  Anything to shake the market out of its stagnant stupor driven largely by incompetent mom-and-pops like Nabco and even Dispatch.

I've given up hope that any of the enlightened medium-size operators like Bonneville, Entercom, Greater Media or Emmis will somehow make their way to Columbus, especially with the struggling economy.  This again derives largely from the fact that Columbus is really short on big signals for a market this size.  Saga is the only local operator that seems to be trying to shake things up some, but so far that really hasn't gone anywhere as far as waking the market from the doldrums.

So all that's left is to grasp at straws of hope, even if that means Wilks.  (Not that I expect your suggested scenario to actually pan out.)  Hopefully the PPM will help shake things up when it comes to town a year from now.    It's not as if we have to worry about a a legendary station in a non-PPM-friendly format being killed off, a la KKSF in SF or WNUA in Chicago.   (My guess is that WJZA will be a victim of the dump-Smooth-Jazz steamroller even before the PPM gets here...and that station isn't exactly legendary, anyway.)

107.1 really is a useless station, unless someone wants to use it as a minor spoiler, but really you have to go after a niche crowd. If Stop26 whatever they are now weren't so poor managing money or radio stations, that would be perfect for them to have 103.1/107.1 as a combo.

I am suprised someone like EMF does not pick up 107.1..while it's not the best signal they could run it very cheaply and likely have enough listener support to fund it some how...

107.1 was once a great station, when they were known as Hot 107/107.1 Kiss-FM in the mid 90s. The Country format is a waste of a signal and the numbers show.

Just talking to a good buddy in Kansas City, sounds like Wilks helped with the latest bill payments on the move. Now this could be all a cover, but something tells me they are picking up 102.5 if thats the case.

They said that Wilks wants to move New Country to 102.5 and use the 102.3 repeater in downtown as well. As for 107.1 maybe a hybrid Oldies format?

Wouldn't the 102.3 booster cause too much interference with the 102.5 signal even if both are carrying the same programming?

Don't know as I hadnt check recently but at one point 102.3 Mhz was splattering from 101.7 to 102.9 if you came any where near the downtown area.

I really wish if wilks gets 102.5 that they do something other than country. Doesn't 95.5 now play new country mixed in with their classic country? I thought I heard they switched back to that again after breifly only doing classic country.

Even an automated CHR on 102.5 would likely pull in better numbers than 107.1 currently does.

Maybe they will put a automated CHR on 107.1.... Kiss FM was not to bad back in the days, or maybe we could re-live the days of Hot 105 :)

i think under current fcc law, the translator would have to cease and desist. Would have to go bye-bye regarless of owner:)

ut, ya...do something different other than country....goodness, what a waste of a new signal...these idiots that make decisions really need to get a clue. their collective IQ must be no higher than 100. Columbus radio is pretty much a waste land.
