102.5 is one step closer to moving to columbus

It will be interesting, should this be granted, what effect it will have on the LPFM stations that are going on the air at 102.1. Two of the stations may have to move to a different frequency, and the other two could see some substantial interference.

there is a new application that includes the antenna stucture report that has been missing, the new tower will be 302 ft (not the 500 ft applied for) with 11kw

Hmmm, so let the speculation begin. What format will we see pop up at 102.5? I can't imagine they would keep their current AC format.

The latest filing on the facid on 6/23/2006 is here:

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/app_list.pl?Facility_id=72310

"THE STATION IS USED TO RELAY THE SIGNAL OF RADIO STATION WHOK-FM TO THE COLUMBUS COMMUNITY. COLUMBUS IS WITHIN THE PROTECTED CONTOUR OF WHOK-FM, BUT DUE TO THE EFFECT THAT BUILDINGS IN THE DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS AREA HAVE ON WHOK-FM'S SIGNAL, AS WELL AS OTHER INTERFERENCE ISSUES, THE COLUMBUS COMMUNITY DOES NOT RECEIVE A SATISFACTORY SIGNAL FROM WHOK-FM'S MAIN FACILITY. DUE TO INADVERTENT OVERSIGHT, THE STATION WAS NOT INCLUDED IN WHOK-FM'S LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION, WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN GRANTED. THE STATION'S LICENSE EXPIRED ON OCTOBER 1, 2004. THE APPLICATION WAS ACCEPTED FOR FILING ON JULY 5, 2005 AND IS CURRENTLY PENDING.

TO PROVIDE CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE STATION WHILE THE STAFF REVIEWS THE PENDING APPLICATION, CBS RADIO SEEKS AN EXTENSION OF THE EXISTING STA TO PERMIT OPERATION OF THE STATION DURING THE REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION. GRANT OF THE REQUEST WOULD SERVE THE PUBLIC INTEREST, CONVENIENCE AND NECESSITY BY ALLOWING THE COLUMBUS COMMUNITY TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE IMPORTANT SERVICE FROM THIS TRANSLATOR STATION."

whoops.

So I wonder if 102.5 will now be taken into account for this renewal application.

even IF it is allowed to stay, 102.5 will tear it up... I think I would be looking at an on channel booster, if I was CBS!

This signal is going to have all of the rimshotter problems that WJZA, WWCD, WAZU, WTDA, WJZK, ect. have. It's probably going to get ripped downtown and points NW unless you have a great tuner.
A full 11kW does help though.
What format other than AC could it have? Maybe it will be "Lite 102.5" since there's no "Lite" in town anymore...

As far as a format, Im thinking that maybe a CCM wouldnt be out of the mix.. heres why...

Since 2001 WHIZ (Hot AC) has been neck & neck with WCVZ (CCM) in Zanesville as far as community presence and ad dollars. So, they pull out of Zanesville, move to Columbus, flip to CCM and attempt to cut off WCVZ's big brother.. WCVO.

Just my thoughts...

I think it would be an uphill battle. WCVO has pretty decent coverage coverage and from what I understand, people are generally very pleased with the programming (although I never listen to them). WCVO is pulling in solid numbers beating out many of the more powerful signals in town.

So WHIZ pulls out of Zanesville leaving WCVZ all the growth in the world and tackle a firmly entrenched CCM in Columbus? I just don't know.

Any news as to what's going on with the 102.5 and 106.7 move-ins?
Seems like things have stalled a bit....(anything new?haha)

It won't be long before they change hands. I've seen that before - move a signal closer to a big market and sell the thing.

Shame of it is......................they are taking the "hometown" FM station out. Zanesville will have to rely on 3 Perry CO. stations (remember WCVZ main transmitter is south of Crooksville), Cambridge, Coshocton, Newark and a translator in town for WCVZ. Oh I forgot the Zanesville AM.

Article from the Zainesville newspaper:

WHIZ gets OK to move radio tower to Fairfield County
Station says it's not a done deal; FM signal would not be heard here if it happens
By BRIAN GADD
Staff Writer

ZANESVILLE - The WHIZ Media Group and Southeastern Ohio Broadcasting applied for and received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to build a new radio tower, although company officials said the project isn't a done deal.

Dose anyone believe this station won't move to Columbus?? If not, Why would they go to all the trouble to secure this C.P. to move the station to Columbus and then not sell or build the C.P.?

Nice spin on that one. They must think that the average IQ of Zainesville listeners must be very low if they believe this pile of BS.

They paid a tidy sum to make Vern Baldwin go away (competing application to move 102.3 Wilmington toward Columbus). No skin off him since the LMA checks from EMF (K-Love) will keep coming regardless. They will definitely move and sell though...and get big $$ out of it...I doubt they would have paid off a competing applicant otherwise.

I'm sure 107.3 (Crooksville) and 105.9 (New Lexington) won't mind the reduced competition. I'm sure satellite radios probably sell well in the Zanesville area anyway.

"Just an option?" Anyone who beleives that also probably beleives that Gordon McLendon isn't going to sell any more of his radio stations. (Note to those who don't get the joke there: McLendon sold his last station around 1970).

Anyone who could do a Columbus move-in and doesn't is just plain stupid... and anyone who says they don't plan to do it is just plain lying.
