102.5 KDON in the late 90's

Nope it stills CHR-Rhythmic back then, kind of similar to KSFM 102.5 in Sacramento, 99.1 KGGI in Riverside, and KUBE 93 in Seattle, they only play Pop music that is consider to be cossover appeal, you didn't hear any acts from Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, Alanis Morrisette, Paula Cole, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Third Eye Blind, Tal Bachman on CHR-Rhythmic stations.

KDON sounded like it had leaned on mainstream back then.

@BayDay415: Yes I remember it well as I worked there as their Production Director and fill-in jock from 1997-2000. The voice on that aircheck was Frank Garden and I used to come on after him on Sundays from 6 to midnight.

@e-dawg: Although it was classified as a CHR-Rhythmic, KDON tended to play a lot of mainstream/crossover stuff and it was dayparted; after 6 or 7 it was definately more rhythmic. I remember playing Goo Goo Dolls, Jewel, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Cardigans, Barenaked Ladies right along side Notorious BIG, Puff Daddy, 2-Pac and on and on. I remember that station being absolutely LIVE; jocks on 24-7 since Prophet didn't come on the scene until late '99. Great station, great numbers, great music, real good times indeed.

YouTube aircheck is from Sunday, January 31, 1999.

Reference to it being Super Bowl Sunday after a weather mention. (Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami - Denver Broncos 34, Atlanta Falcons 19)
Valentines Party upcoming...
Grammy Awards trip (Shrine Auditorium in L.A. on Wed., Feb. 24, 1999).

Billboard Hot 100 Chart Jan. 30, 1999 here.
