102.5 testing

KJFI is running Norteña late Monday evening. Didn't hear any announcements during 30 minutes of listening. Very definitely not La Calle, also not a simulcast of KJOZ.

KMAZ really should have gotten 50w with the same height antenna then they would have 30mile range car radio

LPFMs are restricted to a certain power under 100 once the height is higher. All LPFMs should have around the same range.

To explain LPFM a bit further: Low Power FMs are restricted to 100 watts at 30 meters or about 100 feet. Because power and height above average terrain factor in the coverage, if the height is over 30 meters, the wattage drops below 100 directly related to that height. KMAZ is at the maximum height and power allowed. For the normal LPFM a 60 dbu signal goes out about 3.6 miles from the tower.

So it’s official? The 102.5 from North has become LA NÚMERO UNO.

880 AM has started airing LA VOZ again.

If the format wheel keeps spinning so much, how do we distinguish between official and temporary?

This 880 is one of the big ssues in the Hector Guevara trial. The AM revitalization process allowed the translator on 92.5 to move in from over 150 miles, but required the translator to be "married" to 880. In the divorce, the court ordered property division settlement gave the translator to the wife -- but it didn't include Hector's contract to program 880.

Who cares these days?
It's more for kicks and giggles

Testing 1 2 3 4

I think they do pretty well! Have you heard 104.5 ? They run 10-15 minutes of commercials per hour and seem pretty busy. So I think bills are paid just fine
A am hearing that they are mostly getting the proverbial "dollar a holler" rates* and they are likely not doing significant total revenue amounts. A station income is not based on how many spots but, really, on how much per spot.

* ("Dollar a Holler" is a trade term that means "cheap spots" and does not specifically mean they are just getting $1.00 per announcement)

I have said this a couple of times, but the issue here is not how many commercials but how much they charge (and get) per commercial.

Lots of money losing stations have loads of commercials. But they don't have a big enough audience to get significant ratings or results for clients, so they sell for very little.

A station with no ratings and very limited coverage is not going to bill the same as KLTN or KLOL.
