102.5 The Bone - Tampa Bay's Best Rock

WHPT has segued some over the weekend. They've added artists such as Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, and Rage Against the Machine, and are calling themselves "Tampa Bay's Best Rock" (with new voice guy). The music sounds basically the same, except for some occasional newer tracks mixed in.

So they're breaking with Cox tradition and not calling themselves "The New Bone"? ???

Looks like the change took effect Friday, after Bubba was over.....

While this seems to be an improvement musically.....for my personal tastes (40YO male) I have noticed right away that the number of artists on the playlist seem to be extremely limited (like the old format)

It's only 3pm and Stone Temple Pilots have already played 4 times since bubba got done at 10:38am......4 times in 4 hrs and 22 min.........looks the same for several other artists......

assume this doesn't change.....if it does not......then this is the same ''theory'' of music programming as the old bone......just with newer music on average

so....my summary is ...while better.....a missed opportunity to really be terrific like this station linked below.....

It's probably very similar to the changes made at WFYV in Jacksonville....
it is also using "best rock" and Bubba is on as well.

Wasn't a surprise to see the move, considering how well XTB has done in PPM.

Yep, makes me wonder if something is in the works for Orlando's WHTQ as well.

This is a really good move for WHPT. With the success 98 Rock has been having in the new ratings and the fact that WHPT has been getting killed after Bubba, it just makes sense. It will be interesting to see how quickly 98 Rock reacts.

It would be nice if they would swap the formats of 102.5 and 94.9. Put Magic on 102.5, where I'm sure it will do just as well (or as poorly) as it's currently doing, put the new rock station on 94.9 and call it 95ynf! Now that would get attention!

I agree. I never heard YNF------but with the way ya'll talk about it I'd call that genious. Of course Cox would call it the "new 95 YNF with 95 minutes of commercial free music at 9:55 every morning".

The call letters are actually available... I thought someone had parked them in South Georgia somewhere, but a search comes up blank on the FCC site.

I just searched and those call letters do come up on the FCC site.......registered to an AM station in Augusta, GA.....

doesn't matter....they could have still been YNF.......just not WYNF. Would have been a good idea...still is......the people that remember listening to YNF fall into the target group for ''the bone''....right ?

doesn't matter....to do that would have taken time, creativity, talent, flexibility in playlist and every other way....and of course money. .......so therefore it will never happen under COX ownership.

so we have what we have.....the worlds tightest playlist for a station of that format (BTW....what format is it ?......it's NOT active rock)

why don't they just say ''we promise guns n roses every hour'' or ''we promise to ignore 90% of the musical artists of the (insert decade)"

sorry to be so negative......it is THAT bad though......go look at last artists played for a 4 hour period.......or top songs at yes.com.......
