102.5 WFMF

After living in Baton Rouge during and after Katrina, I listened to WFMF there and I was completely blown away by their on-air audio processing. I mean, I have relatives in Baton Rouge and I'm familiar with WFMF and their sound, but have never paid full attention to it before. They are BOOMIN'!!! The on-air sound is loud and it's broadcasted in this "expanded stereo" similation. What kind of processing equipment are they workin' with?! Anyne know?! As far as I know, it's been like that since late in 1997 when Gulf Star owned them.<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah, that is a very nice sound! It is maybe an Orban 222 cranked almost wide open. I am a fan of Orban, but Omnia is almost up there for me.

I've heard a station that has an Omnia processor in their on-air chain and that is a SWEET sound! HOT 104 in Mobile had an Omnia before Hurricane Ivan took their tower down two years ago. As far as I understand, the tower destroyed the shack, so they may not have the Omnia anymore.

When I last took a trip through the Mobile area, they didn't seem to have the same on-air sound as they did pre Ivan. Sad but true....(
