102.7 - Austin on the air

K274AX is now on the air, another contemporary Christian "power fm" station on the same tower as KVET, and looking at the stats the same antenna is 98.5 K253AN is on. Not sure the excact date that it came on the air though.

I am completely puzzled by this development. My understanding is that LPFMs are not eligible for translator stations. The "Power FM" in question is KXPW-LP licensed to Georgetown. There is also some questions of how they are feeding these translators with an "over the air" signal.

In addition, they also seem to have another translator near Bastrop (licensed to Smithville) also at 102.7. Neither of these translators has the same licensee as KXPW-LP.

I will say that KXPW-LP is easily the best sounding LPFM I have ever heard. Their signal is surprisingly good in the north suburbs and their imaging and processing is better than some full power commercial stations I have heard.

I live under that tower (KPEZ and KVET's back up transmitter) - you're probably hearing KPEZ - for some reason (probably because it's about 100 yards away from my apt) i can pick up KPEZ on about 6 frequencies
