102.7 HD2 is Still Playing Christmas Music

Yes - the on-air signal is mono. As long as there's an HD3 (WINS re-broadcast), the HD2 will remain mono. This seems to be the case with most CBS Radio HD channel structure. (WCBS-HD2 "ToNY" was in stereo for a few months before it bit the dust to make way for CBS Sports Radio.)

KRock (WXRK-HD2) was mono on-air as long as WXRK-HD3 (WFAN re-broadcast) was present; once WFAN-FM fired up on 101.9, 92.3's HD3 understandably disappeared, opening the way for 92.3 HD2 to broadcast in stereo. Both online versions of KRock and Smooth Jazz 102.7 (formerly Fresh Christmas/LastFM-Discover/WNEW.com) have been available in stereo.

There are other multi-channel stations in NYC with stereo on their HD2 feeds: WNYC-HD2 + WFUV-HD2.

Multi-channel stations that used to have HD2s in stereo were: WVIP-HD2 (Music Of Your Life-?) + HD3 (Country); WQHT-HD2 (Throwbacks).

The local Clear Channel FM HD2's are in stereo, and have good audio. IMHO, the audio on WLTW HD2, New York Country is more pleasant than on 94.7 Nash FM. Along with WWPR HD2, it runs more power than most NYC HD2's, and has a rather solid signal in much of the Metro area as a result.
Unfortunately WWPR HD2 has been broadcasting little but open carrier since last July, apparently due to issues with One Caribbean Radio, which had leased it.
It seems that Clear Channel and One Caribbean Radio may have just divorced, as the latter's website no longer mentions a simulcast on WWPR. And HDradio.com's listing for WWPR no longer mentions OCR. Hopefully we will soon be able to hear something worthwhile on this HD2.
 
No I disagree I prefer Rock Nation on 104.3 HD2 sounded so much better and different from K-rock, already covering the alternative on HD-2. Could WWPR HD2 go classic hip-hop since Hot 97 abandoned it?
 
In regards to the earlier post about HD channels not getting rated by Arbitron. In Baltimore, WWMX-HD2 averages a .7 each rating period. WAMU-HD2 showed up in the Washington Arbitron.
 
Careful about the HD2s showing up in Arbitrons - most (if not all) that do show up are the result of the HD2 signals being rebroadcast on FM analog translators (usually in the 99-250 watt range). Cumulus has made a cottage industry out of this practice especially in the Atlanta area, in essence putting extra stations on in a market.

WWMX HD2 is the "97.5 HFS Alternative" station that bears resemblance to the original WHFS format that left its full-power frequency a few years ago. It's rebroadcast on W248AO 97.5 Baltimore.

W288BS 105.5 Reston, VA rebroadcasts the WAMU HD2 signal (Bluegrass Country).
 
I thought the ppms pick up all signals and register it with Arbitron. I recall hearing data on Sirius/XM listening numbers vs. terrestrial radio numbers based on Arbitron.

I believe they do indeed pick up the HD subchannel signals for ratings. But in almost any given market there are only about 3 people who own an HD radio and know how to use it properly. And just about everyone has some kind of analog radio around. The only way for an HD station to get any listeners is to also be on an analog translator even though the translaters signal most likely will be smaller then the the HD signal.
 
Meanwhile in Boston, we skipped Easter, the 4th of July, Halloween, etc and 103.3 WODS-HD3 is back to Christmas music.
