102.9 Austin LPFM move

Just read that 102.9 KIJZ-LP has turned in their license. I heard this station once playing Spanish music, and the time after that nothing in 2019 the last time I heard it. Draft Copy « Licensing and Management System « FCC

Oh well, at least they turned it in and didn't just leave it there and not broadcasting so no one else can use the channel...

A person who has looked into the LPFM licensing process might disagree with you about that. The licensing process is so difficult and time consuming that it is always disappointing when an LPFM station loses its license. That station could have been sold to another nonprofit organization which could have used it to originate programming for the local area, and it is not legal to endlessly maintain a license for a station that is not on the air. Often there are no channels available in major metro areas for new translators and LPFM stations because all of the free channels are being used by translators. That channel will almost certainly be snatched up for another translator which just rebroadcasts content that is already available elsewhere on the spectrum. Most translators in major metro areas just rebroadcast material that is already available on other channels in the local area.
